Here I am in German (I'm attempting to mimic my grandma's Hessisch dielect, I'm sure I didn't sound like it): http://host-a.net/Amuere/My%20attempt%20in%20german.wma Where in Hesse is she from? Be careful of what you're labelling "Hessian", since there is no such dialect strictly speaking (look at ...

An example that's sometimes quoted for the original dialect of Kassel, Germany: Get de Redde dä? --- Nä, ne mä. [ˈɡɛdɛ ˈrɛdə ˈdɛː || ˈnɛː nɛ ˈmɛː]. In a more standard German that would read Gehört der Rüde dir? --- Nein, nicht mir. Note that Rüde has become the word for "dog" in general, as opposed ...

Cath, your living room is quite high-ceiling'd it seems.
Viktor, what is it that makes those glasses scream European? Don't you guys wear these kinds of frames in America, or rather, in your environment?

Why should I suddenly acquire subtleties in eating habits in another country if I'm only visiting? That is, unless food is only served with chopsticks or something, or it's perceived really rude to eat certain foods with your fingers. Also, I've never heard anyone say spaghetto for a single one. I'd...

Spoons also, yes. However there are small forks specifically for eating cakes. Kuchengabeln, the equivalent to teaspoons I guess.

[edit] Aha, apparently those forks are called dessert forks [/edit]

IME Italian-style pizza, if it is good, is crisp enough not to need fork and knife. Except if you're in a restaurant, where it's a matter of politeness not to use your hands for eating. On the contrary, burgers are never to be eaten with fork and knife, neither is bread. For cake it depends. Dry cak...

Zinc ointment (or pills) might help as well, at least it did so for me and my brother. I wasn't too bad a case of acne during puberty though. Also avoid fatty and sugery food (e.g. chocolate).

Will the book be available on amazon.[other than .com] as well in the forseeable future? They don't take shipping fees for books in Germany after all, and I guess ordering from the US would be another $5-8, so you'd pay ~$25 with tax for it or so, which is ~€18 or so.
