Re: Polyglottal Telephone XIII

Yiuel 's translation into Spanish has some weird constructions like "estoy teniendo". Estoy teniendo is a possible construction in Spanish, but not here. (That * porque mi también estoy teniendo... should be porque todavía tengo... ) So it wouldn't be possible to say things like estoy teniendo much...

Re: Polyglottal Telephone XIII

And the results are now up: Main Page Details Page Hilarious end results. Looking at my team first: Yiuel 's translation into Spanish has some weird constructions like "estoy teniendo". He also puts "No me trago" - I dunno if that's an idiom, but it became "I don't bring my own" when it got to me. ...

Re: You shan't use shall

Should we stop using shall in legal writing? Myself, I think this is stupid. First, how can you get rid of shall and not should? That's ju...

Re: Polyglottal Telephone XIII

I'm really sorry, but between work all day and social events, I didn't have much time. I will finish it this afternoon, though, since I shall have plenty of time.

EDIT: abgeschlossen and lähettänyt
(whew that was way more work than I thought)

Got it. Done first part, which is understanding and (kind of) deciphering the text.
Now time to turn it into bad Finnish... (It will take some time).

Re: Dropping s in Portuguese

Nothing generic happens to /s/ in "non-onset positions". Regional accents either keep it as /s/, or it becomes /S/ (in Portugal, in Rio and some northeastern regions), or /js/ or /jS/ or it becomes /C/ or /h/ (in some northeastern/amazonian regions, or sometimes even in Rio). But it doesn't get full...

Re: Yonagu by Nancy - vowel systems

You should be a bit more careful with specifying varieties— the Chinese you cite is presumably Mandarin, but I don't know if you're doing Brazilian or European Portuguese. It'd also be better to say Southern Quechua. Brazilian Portuguese fits more T7 (or possibly an 8-vowel variant of it where 'a' ...

I thought you were perfectly aware...

Re: Teléfono políglota XII

It's not more difficult than any other Romance language. It's just incomprehensible to people who can otherwise translate out of Romance languages fine. Agreed. I have translated from Romanian before, in another PT. It doesn't have so much recognizable cognates as other Romance languages (and/or it...
