Re: 2L Monumental Style Conscript: Herp Derp
Thanks, but yeah, no need to bump now this has been moved to C&C . Honestly I'm surprised by the sustained interest, though it's great, considering that this isn't even a script yet, just large collection of crappy sketches. Speaking of which... This group is called rodents, but (in Earth-biology, a...

Re: Spelling in your conlang
I think the most interesting thing I did spelling-wise was Raum/Fluvic, which ripped-off borrowed heavily from Egyptian hierogylphics and had a cheerfully irregular mix of phonetic, fossilised, falsely- archaised and logographic forms which were all valid.

The final stage in all plans being profit, a conlang becomes complete when you figure out how to make money from it.

Re: 2L Monumental Style Conscript: Quanti canicula in fenest
The fennec and the njr̄vg wolf are still too similar, imho- apart from the jawline, they only really differ in proportion, while all of your other canid glyphs have at least a distinctive combination of patterns. Of course, neither animal actually has particularly distinctive patterning in real lif...

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread
After a long hiatus, I'm finally starting a new novel; one that promises to be a large improvement over the fifteen-parallel-plots abomination that was the last one or, rather, attempt at one. The bad part: why am I so slow? I used to be able to write 2000 words on a bad day, 4000 on a good one. No...

How about an overly balanced lexicon? The Second Language has sixteen colour terms, sixteen kinship terms, sixteen conjunctions, sixteen variations on the genitive, sixteen demonstratives, sixteen verbs of directional motion, sixteen life processes, sixteen emotions, sixteen body parts....

Re: 2L Monumental Style Conscript: Quanti canicula in fenest
I guess you realize thylacine is actually a marsupial, not a canine, right? Neither are hyenas and aardwolves. For that matter, slowworms aren't snakes, lobsters aren't arachnids, raccoons aren't felines, and I don't even know where to start with the "bears"... so you've been striving for accuracy ...

Dogs 2.0: http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w164/Anguipes/VG%20Logography/dogsv02_zpsfda55599.gif I've not gone overboard with changing things, but hopefully the foxes look more fox-y now, and the major offenders for similarity are more easily distinguished. Re: 2L Monumental Style Conscript: Quanti canicula in fenest
Well, these are really hard to distinguish. Lots of room for misinterpretation! To critisize a little, I think that your snakes are too similar to one another, and the hood of the cobra isn't clear enough. I also think that your foxes look too much like wolves. Yes, and I am not at all happy about ...

What Ars and Hallow said, basically. Also take into account the risk of pregnancy and childbirth - with pre-modern medicine sex can carry risk of death for a woman even outside any existing social stigma.

Re: The rarity of modern-day conworlds confuses me.
I can't be arsed to sort out that much history and technological development. I'm not sure what technology level Vana will get, except that it will probably look completely schizophrenic - there are beings that know the entirely of Vanan natural law, a hell of a lot of magic, and a taboo against ani...

If this thread could be moved to C&C, that would be great  Another "because I can" set - snakes as a separate class from reptiles/amphibians. This includes legless lizards, as Vana taxonomy is based broadly on morphology. Delays can be all blamed on the TES series. http://i176.photobucket.com/...

Re: Second Language Monumental Style Conscript Sketchpad
Bats remain controversial, so I have moved onto other superheroes (and assorted arthropoda). It was really hard to get good reference images for some of these, they probably all have the wrong number/type of legs, eyes, or mouthparts. And between this and the insects, I never want to see the word pe...

I'm somewhat surprised that the system of your conpeople lumps together all kinds of unrelated animals under "bears", but goes to very fine distinctions between species under "bats". You could say the same about "worms" vs "cats". The "very fine distinctions" really aren't as fine as they look - Fr...

Probably not upside down, but facing left/right depending on... something (probably gender). Sod it, I've had an idea. Prepare for bats, 2.0. EDIT: So, which is best? The last one is based on what I plan to do with the fish, which in turn is based on the heraldic dolphin uriant. http://i176.photobuc...

So... they're supposed to be upside down? I mean, I know bats sleep upside down, but they're not always sleeping. It looks kind of odd. Honestly, I can't decide. Varying the orientation will help make glyphs more immediately recognisable and probably will occur in more stylised phases, and not just...

Re: Second Language Monumental Style Conscript Sketchpad
Bats are finally done. I can't hope to capture the diversity of real-world order chiroptera, especially since there's little correlation between differences in morphology and lifestyle. So while I've tried to get as broad a sampling as possible, this is more "collection of awesome bat species". http...
