Re: Criticize my map
No, Sam. All that we are shown is coastlines. Rifting separates continents at the continental shelf, so the position of the coastline, while relevant, is not of primary importance. Also, depending on the position of the pole of rotation w/r/t to the plate boundary, the variance in rate from end to e...

Re: Criticize my map
Zomp: Because plate tectonics occurs on a spherical surface, rifts do not expand evenly. Any two plates will rotate with respect to one another around a single point, called the "Pole of Rotation". The closer the rift is to this pole, the slower the rifting will be. One example is the famous Mid-Atl...

Re: CCC Species creation
The description of the species I propose is pretty easy. They are just like humans, but sexy. Every single individual of the species is devastatingly sexy. I call them The Sexies . Also, the offspring of a Sexy and any other race is a Sexy. This will prevent people from diluting their awesome Sexine...

Re: CCC map voting - RESULTS ARE IN
I suggest viewing Mark's map as an overlay in Google Earth, to get a good sense of how it looks projected onto a globe. It's pretty nice. I think adding a continent to the north pole would be a good idea, and I'd also suggest moving some of the smaller southern islands north a bit, as they are prett...

Re: Competitive collaborative conworld - CONTINENTS NEEDED
Ahzoh, your map does not show the full extent of your continent... Should we consider it's northern and eastern coasts to be straight lines?
EDIT: also, you have rivers going all the way across your continent from coast to coast...

Your First Conworld?
I was thinking today about the first conworld I ever made, which was called Cripto. I came up with this world when I was probably 6 or 7 years old, and worked on it for the subsequent 4 or 5 years. I have a firm memory of the map, which looked like this: http://s27.postimg.org/3lfy9f0df/cripto_01.jp...

Re: Non-Tolkienian fantasy
I'm a big fan of the Burton and Swinburne series by Mark Hodder. The series is centered around the introduction of a time traveler to the Victorian Era of our timeline, and how the timeline spirals out-of-control as a result of understandable actions taken by the characters. It's great. But my favor...

Re: Hey, I made a map
Since it feels pointless to add superfluous praise, how about criticism? The one thing I'd change is the textures/patterns/whatever. They're a bit bold for my liking, when zoomed-in. The biggest problem is the grey-orange-peel business labelled 'nazalil' - I assume it's just meant to look dry, but ...

Re: Hey, I made a map
I admit it's a bit hard to see. It's right above the "Sultanate of Zender" title cartouche. The sultanate is about 250 miles wide from east to west.Vardelm wrote:Speaking of which, what's the scale on this map?

Re: Hey, I made a map
I'd like to submit a motion to have you explain your process. I've seen other methods for creating mountains on The Cartographer's Guild and such sites, but there are very few that give a really nice, realistic look like this. Rhetorica is right: it's just bevel and emboss. I start in Illustrator b...

Hey, I made a map
I'm trying out a new style here. This map is the Sultanate of Zender, which is in the southeastern part of the Kaspari Empire. The map took about two weeks to finish, with most of that time spent drawing all of those intricate mountain ranges. Check it out if you're interested: Map of the Sultanate ...
