Quick question about Dutch /G/

Hello all. I've always seen Dutch <g> transcribed as /G/, but, in any spoken Dutch I've heard, it always sounds like [X]... if anyone knows anything about this you guys will. It still hasn't died out in some dialects, but I reckon it'll be gone within 30 years.

Nadreck wrote:Also, why does English have "starve" = to die of hunger, but no word for to die of thirst?
"Starve to death" is to "starve" is to "be hungry" as "die of dehydration" is to "dehydrate" is to "be thirsty".

As a novelty, it's a great idea, and it's also good if Zomp wanted to further utilise his lang or showcase it, but for the purpose of being useful , it's not worth wasting time on. It's the kind of thing I'd spend weeks partially-completing, and then give up on before I'd finished. Of course, more p...

Wikipedia is wrong-- it's not (or wasn't) velar but dental or alveolar. It said dental click, I think it meant that it is coarticulated with [k]... and as I understand it, all clicks have coarticulations of some sort, so I'm assuming Wikipedia was actually right. I could, of course, be wrong though...

I think it's a dental click (X-SAMPA [k|\)]).

In the style of road safety, here's a little 3-step guide to post safety: STOP! Before hitting the "Submit" button, hooold it right there. LOOK! Look at your post. If it contains more than one "OMG", "YAY", "SCRIPTY", "PRETTY" or "", delete all duplicates. LISTEN! Read the post aloud to you...

Yeah, "where" would work fine. You can also use the neologism "whatth" IMD...

- I'm going away on the 4th of December
- The whatth of December?
- The 4th of December

Though "when in December" would work fine there.
