Latin / Romance -mus verb ending

In Spanish or Portuguese it's -mos, Italian -mo, etc. All these, apparently, derive from the Latin -mus. But where does that derive from? I've never been able to find a good answer on my own.

By the way, here are the base terms: KANJ - "kin", most often "cousin". KUM - offspring. Can also be used as a verb in a sense similar to "derive" or "born of"; e.g. "FreeBSD kum Unix" - "FreeBSD is derived / comes from from Unix" MA - moth...
