Re: So, inspiration! :D
I'd be interested, actually. After the odd little challenge (like glossing Uyseʔ quotes) I'd rather like to take part in something big.
But as an Akana member, I'll also shamelessly suggest it be set in one of the less fleshed-out parts of Akana

How likely is it that a language with both faucalised /p t ts k/ and glottal/glottalised /? n_? l_? r_?/ (not sure of the correct X-SAMPA) would merge them into a single series, and if so, what would be feasible outcomes? Could they become a glottalised series?

Re: Theory of Magic
Let me introduce a new term: magical energicity . Magical energicity is the maximum amount of energy produced per aetherial consumed. That is, a spell is very energetic when it produces a lot of energy with a given amount of one class of aether. It's measured in aetherial per joule in the SI, ae/J....

Do consider, keeping in with the example, that Montana has, in reality, like one million people living in it, modern agricultural methods and all. That's mainly because most of almost everywhere sucks for agriculture. Mountains, canyons, desert, cliffs, forests. Most of earth is either too dry, too...

I really, really like Yiuel's Xurnese pic. And his, um, sword
I should get a newer pic of myself up here sometime. I'm doing Movember (to wind up my girlfriend if nothing else) so Bristly Duke may be making an appearance.
I should get back on the forums in the first place...

Re: City layouts
I've spent most of my life in rural England, but I lived in San José, California, for two years and I can attest to the "house of mirrors" thing. It all looked very much the same, except in the very centre of the city. I also find Continental cities - especially French - occasionally puzzling becaus...

Re: Conlang relay [relocated] (aka "The Cursed Relay")
A new contributor! Welcome. Do you have much familiarity with the Akana setting, and do you have much idea of where you want to set the Waku family? The more we know about the family (and which Akanaran families it resembles) the easier it will be to find some possible places for it. I'd also like t...

Re: Privacy and modesty in world cultures
It's usual practice with my family and friends to have guests sleep in the living room, too. It should be easy to extend that to everyone sleeping there, even in a conculture similar to Western Europe (my own family are all English).

Re: Privacy and modesty in world cultures
On a related note, I've been giving some thought to what the Terps and neighboring cultures would wear. I was thinking three layers of clothing, underwear like a loincloth, a tunic worn indoors, and some sort of robe or poncho worn over that outdoors. I dunno if that would necessarily work in a sub...

. And America pretty much is European colony. Sorry, but we won the war. We are not a European colony, we are a place where Europeans come to to live in a better country than where they were. You're an autonomised European colony, which is the worst kind of colony ever that kills kittens with small...

Titan also has a thick atmosphere at high altitude because its gravity is so low, and therefore its scale height is much larger. It's sometimes said that low-gravity bodies like Titan have "soft" atmospheres because the pressure gradient is gentler.

Very impressive, indeed!
One comment on the Ndak Empire map: Wasn't Mos Mumbasi the capital, rather than Ngaurlau? I ask because the former is specified in the article, but the latter is underlined on the map.

It is such a cool game.
Also, Dwarf Fortress, and Caln Elcarie if I feel dedicated. I still can't get the ktuvoks not to die in Year 4.

I'm all for it - particularly the southeast is rather empty at the moment, and there's room for two large agricultural civilisations there.
