Re: Akana Conlang Relay 2011 (The Never Ending Relay)

Fixsme: Thank you - that is a very interesting article. I agree a more massive moon, assuming mostly silicate with a small iron core, is more realistic, and am happy to use your figure; the only reason I went for a lower density was to keep tidal forces to a low level.

My calculations on a system that fits all the established requirements are here: http://akana.conlang.org/wiki/User:Thed ... /Astronomy

Hope that helps!

Re: Akana Conlang Relay 2011 (The Never Ending Relay)

These are looking great! Sorry I haven't been around much - real life is pretty busy at the moment - but I'll be back sooner or later to put more development into Meshi.

Re: Akana Conlang Relay 2011 (The Never Ending Relay)

I think it might be more realistic to have Meshi innovate a new genitive preposition, rather than de-grammaticalize the m-; you should feel free to invent words (even grammatical ones)! Another option might be to use one of the other case prefixes; I've just added some notes on nominal morphology t...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay 2011 (The Never Ending Relay)

The Meshi live in the upper-middle Aiwa valley and the Meshi valley itself (west of the Bwimbai) - see here . Diffusion via the Gezoro and Tjakori cultures would be the likely route for the story to take, but the connection is still pretty distant. It probably does make more sense for the Destroyer ...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay 2011 (The Never Ending Relay)

Really interesting! The things that really have me thinking are (1) the syllabic /m/; (2) reflexes of /tl dl/; and (3) the register/tone system. All of these have implications for Meshi, of course. I don't think Meshi retains register per se, or /Cl/ clusters, but I'd like to hear any suggestions on...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay 2011 (The Never Ending Relay)

That's looking great! Aysuchi um Meshi is now taking shape on the wiki, though it's still quite untidy. I'll probably take some time to work out more vocabulary now the basic morphology is in place, since it's hard to give examples of syntax otherwise. Function words will be an interesting exercise...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay 2011 (The Never Ending Relay)

Hey Duke! I emerge from the dark silence of the caverns where I reside to congratulate you on this. You have given Meshi exactly the feeling it seems like it deserves, and built upon the vibe I was trying to suggest with my few example words so effectively I'm just floored. Heee! Thanks - I'm very ...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay 2011 (The Never Ending Relay)

More or less. Kataputi has been featured on the latest episode of Conlangery . Well I never! It's rather pleasing to see that they've taken an interest, and interesting to see what they did and didn't like about it. (And I've contacted them to see if they wanted to say anything to me personally.) Th...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay 2011 (The Never Ending Relay)

Thanks for the positive feedback! I'll put it on the wiki tomorrow so you can take a proper look at it and make suggestions. (I'm especially happy with the verbal morphology - most of my Akanaran conlangs just pile on suffixes, so having a nice succinct system of ablaut and infixes appeals to my Ger...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay 2011 (The Never Ending Relay)

Hey all! I've been enjoying watching the continued development of Akana - especially Tuysáfa - and tinkering with my Western side-project, Ayčasamo. Now it's time to post my work on an Akanaran language whose existence has been known from the very beginning but about which little has been written - ...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay 2011 (The Never Ending Relay)

Yes, and yes. I support TheDevilcat's decision to move the original pages to a "(reconstructed)" version; I'll upload things to the original "Proto-Dumic" location. I will also be uploading grammatical and sound changes and (eventually) etymologies for Kataputi. Where the information is posted on th...

Re: Longest Word In Your Conlang

Ayčasamo has some very long verbs due to the number of affixes a root can take. For instance, panturunapafisasmos "could cut you all to pieces" is a string of seven morphemes, indicating direction, instrument, mood, tense, manner, and ergative argument - and it's possible for verbs to get even long...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay 2011 (The Never Ending Relay)

I'm absolutely in favour of that. And thank you for your extensive work improving the spreadsheet!
I think we should keep a copy of the doc as it is now (or once you've modified/extended it to your satisfaction) so it's not rendered unusable by well-meaning ZBBers, though. ;)

I'm entirely happy with that.

Barring any objections, I'll start uploading T2 information when I am next free, which will be on the 24th or 25th of January. Does that sound reasonable?

Re: Akana Conlang Relay 2011 (The Never Ending Relay)

Well, I'm not insistent on the original being released; but I simply don't have the long periods of time that I would need to pursue a reconstruction. Real life is quite busy for me and my conlanging is going to remain intermittent for the foreseeable future. On a brighter note, I have remembered to...

Re: Akana Conlang Relay 2011 (The Never Ending Relay)

Hello all - good to see this is still going! I have two things to say: Firstly, CatDoom, those are brilliant maps. :) As Cedh points out, the base map isn't quite current, but this sort of overview - and so well presented - is really good to have. Secondly, I think it's reasonable now to post the PT...

Mm... while it looks like fun, it's not even slightly in keeping with the naturalistic style of Akana and its languages, and the Akana Wiki is strictly for Akanaran works. I'd recommend storing it on FrathWiki or KneeQuickie, or on something personal like Google Drive.
