I can't believe this thread is still alive :) I've been browsing the board again lately and it's itching... I'll probably pick up conlanging again sometime soon. I think I'll flesh out Reçaneið ["4EtS.ni:], a daughter language of Lembrin. Just wanted to say that this: [...]In the conlang (still unna...

Tavorian works like basque I think; I slept I saw him I sent her a letter Become Slept I Saw him I Sent a letter I to her We're talking about morphosyntactic alignment, not word order.... I think we can garner from that that Tavorian is an Ergative-Dechiactive (sp) langauge. I really don't think yo...

Don't worry about that I used to have a nooblang called Areyi (cfr. guitarplayer's Ayeri). Besides, you might have been first with that name anyways. I used to call it therial or "Asofyetunnamedese" Thanks :) I may still change it anyway though, to show that I'm mixing Lhemburan ideas with ones fro...

Yen groups S and A together, and does the same with P , R and T . Since syntactical roles are unmarked (no case system), it indeed relies completely on context to figure out which is which, although animate objects will preferably appear earlier in the verbal clause than inanimate ones. Actually, w...

Re: Morphosyntactic alignment
I'm not very familiar with RT groupings, but surely it's (theoretically) possible for a language to group P , R , and T all separately? Tripartite style? Sure :) I didn't include it because I haven't come across a natlang that does it. The situation is muddled by the fact that nouns are not decline...

Morphosyntactic alignment
Warning : this post may be a bit hard to digest, especially if you aren't familiar with alignment. It's also quite late, so I apologise on beforehand for any errors or weird sentence constructions. Morphosyntactic alignment is about how the different core arguments of a verb are grouped into cases ...

Also, you don't have to have a "good" or "gifted" tongue to do it. Just look at the millions of people with [r] in their natlangs (as me): "gifted" tongues should be few. Actually, Flemish has [4] and occasionally [r] for /r/... and some people just tend to pronounce it [R\] or [R] or even [X]. It'...
