IRC fun (after Mr. Saturday was de-opped): * MrSaturday peels a lemon <MrSaturday> Do you know how hard it is to peel a lemon? <MrSaturday> I mean, peel it like an orange? <MrSaturday> Hint: Pretty fucking hard. <MrSaturday> That's how pissed I am. <MrSaturday> I'm going to eat a fucking lemon. <Wh...

You know what I meant. I must admit, I missed the irony when I wrote it.

At least I get quoted. :D

I don't know if Xadim = Khang or not, but the font with "pagina" in can be seen in Xadim's signature.

i.e. it doesn't say "phallus" in the definition, but rather "thallus". "Phallus" could perhaps be erotic, but I don't like to imagine one being flattened.

The surface of a leaf or of a flattened thallus.
Note that it's <th>, not <ph> so it's not really very erotic.

Still, how did you come up with the "gen-"? Or was it just random?

Genackets? I've never heard that one before, and neither has Google, apparently. I can see that "squackets" is from "square brackets", presumably, but how is "genackets" derived? "General brackets" is all I can think of, but that doesn't really make sense.

Pretty much what I say, except I would usually call "<>" angled brackets.
But I know this whole thing is a British/American difference.
I didn't know that.

Technically yes, but I was just being colloquial. In informal speech calling "()" brackets is perfectly acceptable, IMD. :P

Seriously, I did know that difference but I'd forgotten about it. And in informal speech I do just call them brackets.

If I type "/slashes/ and (brackets)" what does your screen-reader say? It says, quote slash slashes slash and left parenth brackets right parenth",. Okay. I thought there was a slim possibility that it read "/" and "(" as the same thing, for some reason, so that your "mistake" would have been justi...

I've noticed some people confusing /slashes/ and /brackets/ in regard to phonetic transcription, and this bugs me for some reason. I don't think it's only them. I' prolly being dense, but I don't quite see the humour in that... :? Well, "slashes" and "brackets" have both been enclosed in slashes by...

Weird, sure, maybe in some places a little too weird, but nevertheless the asskickage remains. What was this with reference to? I'd like to suggest a rule for this thread whereby we have to link to the post we're quoting, so that anyone who wants to can read it in context. We don't necessarily need...

Ohhh, is that what a sticky thread means? You learn something new every day! And I agree.
It also means the thread will stay at the top of the page and be seen more easily.
