Re: Conlangery Podcast (Latest Ep: SHORTS #08: Pahran gramat
Apparently I've been severely neglecting this thread, so I'm going to update all at once the past three shorts. I'd also like to announce that I've talked to Mike and William and long-form episodes will be returning soon (our first recording is scheduled for next week). Conlangery SHORTS #09: Phrase...

Re: How to design a non-European phonology
Why would you exclude a phonological phenomenon from the "phonology section"? Where would you put it, then?2+3 clusivity wrote:This, while possibly true, seems out of place in the phonology section.25. No vowel harmony

Re: Conlangery Podcast (Latest Ep: #89: Polysynthesis)
That welsh village was a marketing gag originally, you know... I didn't, actually. I didn't bother to read the Wikipedia article at the time, as Mike literally dropped it in as we were recording the show. In any case, assuming that it's a valid Welsh word using normal compounding rules, it's still ...

Re: Conlangery Podcast (Latest Ep: #89: Polysynthesis)
We have a new episode out: Conlangery #89: Polysynthesis I also noticed that I forgot to share the last short with the forums, so here's the link to that: Conlangery Shorts #07: When do you insert your infix? . You'll also notice that I've separated the shorts out from the full episodes in the first...

Re: Conlangery Podcast (Latest Ep: #87: Determiners)
William has been recording, and he doesn't record much material outside the main show. Plus, outtakes take time to put together. Sorry.finlay wrote:No outtakes?

Re: Conlangery Podcast (Latest Ep: #87: Determiners)
Lots of the and the lots of mean different things! Yeah, I actually got that impression as I was editing. Basically the lots of cows actually gives me two meanings: 1) The auction lots that include cows. 2) A specific group of many cows that I've mentioned before. Meaning (2) seems similar, though ...

Re: Conlangery Podcast (Latest Ep: #87: Determiners)
My own thought on the difference between 'some' and 'any' is that 'some' is always a finite, natural number (i.e. 1 or more) or real, existing thing, and typically represents a limited range or exact number/thing that is simply left unspecified. On the other hand, 'any' is generally infinite, and r...

Re: Conlangery Podcast (Latest Ep: #87: Determiners)
@clawgrip: Thanks a bunch for that feedback. I apologize for not seeing it earlier -- I don't spend as much time on these forums as I'd like. Meanwhile, there is a new episode: Conlangery #87: Quantifiers and Determiners Remember, Conlangery is fortnightly now, though I'm hoping to record a bunch of...

Re: Conlangery Podcast (Latest Ep: #85 Multilingual Conworld
Just wanted to confirm that kimono does have a specialised meaning in japanese too - after all, they all wear western clothes now. But from a couple of conversations i've had, i think they use it differently from me - i think for me it means japanese clothes, but they will consistently distinguish ...

Re: Human homeworld called Earth but with fictional geograph
But they aren't actually those places. [And I don't think it's so clear cut, either. Eg Gotham's political corruption seems more of a nod toward Chicago, though its Italian mobsters do seem NYish] I looked up some maps, and apparently Gotham is in New Jersey, and I could not find Metropolis at all....

Re: Human homeworld called Earth but with fictional geograph
I think these three science fiction worlds are not created to predict the future, but why don't western science fiction do this? Superheroes like Superman fought in American cities like New York, not an Earth conworld. Surprised I'm the first to mention this: but no. Superman was based in the city ...
