OK, I found the problem: after digging through Character Palette, I found the letters, but Font Book just didn't pick them up. A Macintosh keyboard layout will be forthcoming, for those interested.

I finally got the file, but I'm having the same problems I had with the old font: Mac OS 10.4.8 recognizes it as a font file and lets me install it, but all the characters show up blank in Font Book.

The reason why I asked the question originally is because Mac OS X is supposed to read Windows TrueType fonts without problems, and it does, except for the Almean fonts.
