Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread
I am now back home from the LSA annual meeting. It was fantastic, and a lot of really good stuff happened. And now I'm sad it's over.

Re: The Videogame Thread
I've yet to play Dragon Age, though I'll probably get around to it eventually. I absolutely love Mass Effect, and was somewhat less impressed by the later games. Mechanically, the first one had some faults, but I think the story was incredibly good in ways the other games never managed. I really wi...

Re: The Videogame Thread
I've been working through Mass Effect, in lieu of playing through Dragon Age 2 the squillionth time (I absolutely love that game to teeny tiny bits, for most of the reasons people hate it). I also seem to be back to playing Plants vs Zombies a lot.

Yeah, that's just what's left of the subjunctive in English (and it is being quickly subsumed by "If I did that...").

Re: Phonemic /əɪ/ in Inland North outside of /t d/-flapping?
I'd be inclined to hypothesize that this is a phenomenon affecting morpheme boundaries. If I heard a hypothetical word like [klaɪɹ̩], I'd be inclined to analyze it as the dimorphemic /klai+ɹ̩/, but if I heard a word [kləɪɹ̩], I'd probably assume it was some monomorphemic word /klair/. (I'll also not...

Re: The dream thread
I keep having dreams where I have to rescue my professors from deadly situations. I had one last year where my semantics+pragmatics professor was being held in a massive underground cavern and my old D&D group had to go rescue him because there was an army of faceless nurses slowly injecting poison ...

I'm GRADUATING. People keep saying that I must be so excited, but I'm really not. I'll be glad to finally have a degree, but I'll be cut off from basically everyone I know, I won't have any source of academic feedback anymore (and positive academic feedback is one of the few things that is capable o...

Hopefully. At some point. I keep redoing the syntactic changes because I actually have very little knowledge about how syntactic change actually works in language aside from "it is a thing that happens," so I'm afraid they'll seem noobish.

Mosquitoes had crossed with woodpeckers, and they were swarming people and furiously pecking them to get their blood.
My D&D group suggested that these such abominations be called "bloodpeckers."

I am going to bump this up for now while I repeatedly rewrite some new posts. I probably should have put this in C&C proper.
