Definitely! I'd actually heard some bad things about standards of dental care in Japan but I am definitely not disappointed.

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread

I crashed a bicycle rather badly on Sunday. Don't know exactly what happened since it was very sudden (although I have some ideas…), but I went over the handlebars and hit the ground face-first going roughly 30kph. I broke three teeth, fractured my sternum (just a tiny bit), and got a whole bunch of...

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread

Bad thing: I'm still puking. I've discovered that I can keep down bread okay though.

Good thing: Despite the vomiting, I climbed a goddamn mountain today. Benefits of being really stubborn, I guess.

Re: What are you reading, watching and listening to?

I'm aware of the series but have absolutely zero desire to watch it. I feel that much of what makes the book exceptional just wouldn't translate well to a visual format, and I don't want to screw up my mental images of everything.

Re: What are you reading, watching and listening to?

Currently rereading Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke. I have considered this my favorite book for a long time…and now I very clearly recall why. I fiercely love every single word in this book. Absolute masterpiece.

(it also, incidentally, features a conlanger as a character)

Re: Venting thread that still excludes eddy (2)

Just interrupting this argument to announce that I have been vomiting after I eat anything for two weeks now. I went to the doctor and she gave me some medicine...that doesn't really help. My symptoms got mostly better earlier this week, but they're quite as bad today as they've been. It's not super...

Re: Creativity of the day

Not perfect for a blanket, actually! It's quite a fine yarn, and given the materials it's not machine washable whatsoever. This is enough for a small project—a headband or a small hat. If you want to learn to crochet, I would totally recommend teaching yourself. Youtube is more patient than any teac...

Re: Creativity of the day

I spun it with two plies of white and one of a variegated green/black/gold. The white stuff is superfine merino wool, and the green is a merino/silk blend. It turned out QUITE soft and I'm quite happy with it. I already mailed it off to Canada. :P I'm in the redditgifts yarn exchange. I hope the rec...

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread

All in all, though, I do not like change, and tend towards conservatism in how I do things, unless I unequivocally decide that something is the right thing to do. Regardless, I will be interviewing at this potential new job tomorrow, and we will see how that goes. I totally get you re: not liking c...

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread

I feel a sense of deja vu when you mention this bully. This is a person you've mentioned here before, right? I have. I don't think I've talked about the worst she's done, though. Up until November, she was just doing things like yelling at me and talking about me behind my back. But in November, sh...

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread

Going back to work next week at last, after fifteen months. Good luck! I actually just came to this thread to post that I'm quitting my job. I gave a month's notice about three weeks ago, and after some negotiations today with the boss (apparently it's way easier to figure out the payroll if I leav...

Re: Venting thread

A person I thought of as one of my closest friends told me last year that I caused her to become suicidal. Today, something reminded me of that and I cannot stop dwelling on it. I can't focus. I hope you know that you probably weren't actually the cause. If you'd behaved the same way (however it wa...

Re: Age, Leisure Work and Motivation

I've never been a prolific conlanger, and the same applies now as it used to. For me, there's a conundrum of conlang inspiration: I need to be fairly happy with how life is going to feel inspired to conlang, but in order to feel happy, I need to be relatively busy, at which point I don't really have...

Re: The Arrakum language (aspects of aspect)

So after about three years or so, Arrakum has been reborn. I've been hammering out grammar in a notebook. There's still a LOT of work to do, including deciding on the actual forms for...more or less all morphology (posts will be gloss-only for the time being), but I thought I should write some of it...

I am untouchable, impossible to care about, unlovable. I don't think you are. It's clear that your past makes you think so, but it isn't necessarily true. I assume you're not living with your toxic family anymore? Have you tried therapy? (And sorry if you just wanted to vent and don't want a comple...
