Re: Kiakui scratchpad

I like the idea, but I think we'd need samples with translations to be able to make any sort of reasonable guesses about grammar.

Re: Writing system, not sure which one to use.

my idea I've had for ages: an underspecifying alphabet/abugida [...] So, for instance, if you wanted to spell 'bat', you might rebus it as BIRD-AIR-TERN (for the winged animal, using the 'flying' alphabet), or as BRICK-ANVIL-TRUNK (for a cricket bat, using the 'heavy blunt objects' alphabet). Ah it's been too long since I participated in one of these. At the current rate this round seems just as likely to vanish into the aether as the previous one but eh might as well have a go. Re: Phrase Building

Couldn't you use a verb like "govern" and extrapolate from there? Even monarchical states tend to have a concept of governing. Just a thought. Oh, I should definitely have a word for the concept, no argument there. I had thought about having a "govern" verb and then a derived noun for "government" ...

Re: Phrase Building

"We are sorely in need of support as the government has refused external aid." I hemmed and hawed over how to derive a word for "government" here. In the end, I've thrown in the towel and am instead deferring it until I can think through a holistic set of words for politics. So, bit of a cheat here...

Very nice! If there is any thread worth necroing, it's this one. Conlang sound samples are always great, and dubs are even better :)

Re: Native speakers giving misleading information

I like to analogize this to how you can intuitively know how to throw a baseball and always hit your target but still be misinformed about the actual physics of projectiles. Language Log has written a lot about this, as well as the idea that people are more aware of the fact that their day-to-day ex...

Very nice map. I'm curious about the political arrangement. You said Miott is a country, so I'm assuming the red squares are provincial capitals and Arhecasso is the national capital? What kind of government do they have?
