Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread

This isn't a sound change, but.... My conlang Tazic has a vowel system /a i 1 u a: i: u:/. Stress falls on the first syllable with a long vowel, but I have this other rule: on either side of the stressed syllable, vowels must match in length. So you could have CaC1'Ca:Cu but not CaC1'Ca:CuCi: or wha...

Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread

I'm thinking of losing a retroflex series /ʈ ɖ ʂ ʐ/ like this: ʈ > k ɖ > r ʂ > ʃ ʐ > ʒ well the only change i'm really doubting is ʈ > k, dunno if a little context would help at all. I am really only doing that cuz I like [k], and it would make irregular k~r alternations, but I may end up going with...

Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread

How about an onglide? I have VCʷ :> Vu̯Cʷ :> Vu̯C. u̯C :> ɰC :> Cˠ (and in this case tˠ :> k) ? Also, what would happen to sʷ? I guess I could have it :> x, since I already have x :> h, but then I'd need another source of x that wouldn't have the offglide; /qʰ q/, maybe? If you're trying to get to ...

Uh, do you think the labialized consonants could develop some sort of u~w offglide? Then the velarization could spread to the t.

Re: In search of isolating conlangs

I've wanted to make an isolating language for a while now. I mean, all my conlang attempts have failed, so it's not like there's anything holding me back from isolating langs in particular. Once I figure out how to actually keep conlangs, I'll definitely make an isolating one.

Yesterday I had my first lucid dream that wasn't under five seconds. Hard to say how long, and it wasn't that long, but I got to examine the surroundings a little bit and I think I did a flip.

Okay, I have really forgot about/put off this thing for a while. Honestly, I don't know if I will work on it again. It's no big deal, I bet, just a little Lukpanic language, but I feel kinda bad about giving up. If anyone wants, for whatever reason, I could post the sound changes I have so far, but ...

Wow, it almost sounds kitchen-sinky (well, minus the "designed by a twelve year old" part). And, forgive me if this is an ignorant question but how do you communicate with the Otomí? Do you know the language enough to converse, or do they speak English, or are there interpreters, or do they know Spa...

Since allophones tend to come from historical processes, I'd say that almost any two phones could be allophones of each other. I dunno if you can stretch allophony that far. We don't consider [h] and [N] allophones in English even though they have complementary distribution. I've always heard the r...

I also like Vabungula. It may not be as fancy as many conlangs, but it is cool that it is used so much by its designer, and it got me into conlanging. Tell me moar. Here is the webpage. It started off as any old kids conlang, I guess you could say, but he developed it quite a bit and is now an adult.

Man, everyone always talks about working out to lose weight. What about building some muscle? Different goals Yeah, I don't even know why I said that right now. I guess I was asking- is anybody on the zbb trying to bulk up rather than slim down? I myself could use a little muscle, being more on the...
