Re: Collabworlds (What happens to them vs. The successful on

perhaps that could be replicated: someone might have like a moderately developped conworld and surrender it for others to build upon it... perhaps there could also be like a system for determining a few degrees of canonicity, perhaps where the imperator of that conworld <or the community or whatever...

Re: Collabworlds (What happens to them vs. The successful on

I've seen a few collabworlds die: they mostly die cause someone stops posting and then someone else does and then people lose confidence in the collabworld such that it becomes the zeitgeist that no one else is going to post: It's a bit like a stock bubble deflating, I suppose? Perhaps that's why co...

Re: Non English Orthography Reform

rxason? idgi Spanish without eñe? unthinkable! Otherwise yeah, i agree, the slavic c is bad for spanish... Oooh, i get it now, he didn't list d and D, he just listed d *as* D... okay, then... some people render ch as x, x can be h and you end up with. Finally, b and B are not distinct phonemes, I th...

Re: Happy Things Thread

I experienced a period of segmented sleep for a few months. it came and went, and during it i woke up during the night and ate something, went to pee, maybe had a wank and a read, and then went back to sleep. I didn't notice more well-being than otherwise.

Re: Happy Things Thread

While I'm not on board with the whole "natural" thing <the natural thing is, after all, to die at 23 from an infection you got>, I have to object to the dualism here: the brain is a chunk of the body, and sleep does not like... happen exclusively there: there's many aspects of sleep that are essenti...

Re: Name my dictatorship

So it's a movement that believes that the free market and all that jazz is all well and good, but key areas with too big externalities that the market doesn't or can't reflect should instead be state-run? [or perhaps run at a supra-state level, like some Global Taskforce for the Environment] that so...

good single-culture planets won't lack variety

Consider, however, that societies only get more homogeneous in terms of ethnicity and language and political systems as they grow more and more sophisticated internally: that is to say, you can have a planetwide market and a planetwide culture if you will, but only at the cost of industry, sector, c...

Re: Name my dictatorship

Well pragmatic environmentalism isn't enough to name a polity, i think. UPIC sort of suggests a soviety-style structure of nominally independent coops that federate together under a sort of big leviathan, but it could as well be a vanilla-style burgeois-democracy capitalist state which simply enforc...

well i'm not sure an alien wouldn't be able to tell the difference between chinese people and americans. Besides the fact that we don't really know how differently an alien would think (since we don't have very much experience as to the kinds of minds that are possible), i'm sure that after some stu...
