Re: Help your fluency in a nifty way
¡Hola a todos! He vuelto de lo más hondo (como hago ocasionalmente) para preguntarles: ¿Hay alguien que conozca un buen recurso para aprender el idioma havaiano? Me interesa aprender, pero de los recursos que ya he visto, no puedo entender la gramática por nada. ¿Ayúdenme, por favor? :) Olá a todos...

Re: Translating Lyrics
The lyrics I'm posting below are from Céu da Boca by Ivete Sangalo É de babaixá, é de balacubaca (...) Eu quero beijar a sua boca louca Eu vou enfiar uva no céu da sua boca. There is repeating of these lines, but the first and last lines from the lyrics above are problematic for me. I know that "bab...

Like:
Portuguese (I like some nasal vowels)
Turkish (Yay for vowel harmony)
Afrikaans (It just sounds really cool)
Dislike:
Mandarin Chinese (The tones just sound ugly to me)
French (The overwhelming use of nasals just makes it sound terrible)
Polish (szczchjaoeijslav)

European/Brazilian Portuguese Differences
I don't know how many of you exactly are well-versed in Portuguese phonology shifts, but as I was studying I had a couple of questions and I knew that this would be the best place to go for answers. 1. Why is it that there is a difference between <ti> and <di> in Brazilian Portuguese and European Po...

Cultural Rhymes
All cultures seem to have their share of nursery rhymes, or just traditional sayings in general. I can't think of one that is distinctly American at the moment, but here's a song from Spain that I think is pretty funny: Yo Tengo Un Moco Yo tengo un moco Lo saco poco a poco Lo redondeo Lo miro con de...

Re: Teléfono polígloto XII
In my 'lect, the threadname is ungrammatical: It should be "teléfono políglot a ". Is this different in salvadoran or did you just have a typo/make a joke ? It's fine in the dialect that I learned, as the word "teléfono" is masculine. I would assume the same is the case for whatever dialect he spea...

Re: The Innovative Usage Thread
I don't know if this has been mentioned already, because I was too lazy to read through all 8 pages. :P My friends have the terrible habit of using the word "ass" after an adjective" as a means of emphasizing. For example: "That was a long-ass party" or "It's a hot-ass day outside, isn't it?". Then ...

Or Vietnamese... mmm, sexy Vietnamese. Actually Vietnamese is more of a turn off for me... It has one of the worst romanized orthographies that I have ever seen. I've always wanted to make an isolating conlang, but I never took on the task because of its complexity. (Or, what seems to me like compl...
