Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.

I think there is still some confusion as to which sprachbund scenario was chosen. I've just now officially threw in my vote on the wiki as a tie breaker, I've voted in favor of Alphabetarium's Amendment for maintaining the three regions, but subdividing the Southern Übersprachbund into two "untersp...

Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.

Quick question guys, is the Southern Sprachbund still subdivided into a Southwestern half (Leaci and Cyb) and a Southeastern half (Me and Valiums), or was it decided to divide it into to unrelated zones? I personally would prefer for the Southern Übersprachbund (yeah I'm gonna coin this new term jus...

OK can ya'll brief me on the happenings of the last coupe of days of conversation I've missed? I read to the part were you guys were talking about forming sprachbunds, are we still going with that idea because I like the idea. I'd really like to form a dialect continuum with my closest neighbor.

Re: The Age of Sail - a collab conworld sprouting

I'd like to hop onboard. I think my culture will be a pacifist merchant kingdom, I don't want to be a superpower, maybe a lesser major power if that makes sense. Strong enough to be noticed, but not taken as a serious threat by a superpower...(think pre- Russo-Japanese War Japan)

Re: What's your favorite thing about your conlang?

My favorite feature of my conlang, Alajean, is that it doesn't have a proper adjective class. Instead it only uses verbs for desciption of nouns, I have yet to perfect this feature and it gives me many headaches....but I love it. Re: program vs. program/programme

I have /pɹoɡɹæm/ for both the noun and verb, I've heard alot of people where I live say something like /pɹoʊɡɹəm/ for the noun....it sounds so weird. In what way do you contrast /o/ and /oʊ/? Oops, that was a typo. My pronounciation has /oʊ/. Don't you mean /o/ and [oU] then? Ok, now I'm confused. :?

Using Signing exclusively?

I was thinking today, while studying sign languages. Would it be possible for a culture to some how never develop, or perhaps even lose spoken language and exclusively use sign language? I know it'd be highly improbable, but could it happen?

My (GenAm, more or less) affricates tʃ and dʒ are turning into ʃ and ʒ, respectively. tʃ>ʃ is far less common in my speech, but I very rarely have dʒ anymore- it's all fricativised. Is that true for anybody else? I have fricativation of [tʃ] and [dʒ] too, in casual speech. For me it happens about e...
