Re: Proto-Romanian Resources

Stuff Unfortunately I don't speak Romanian, that would probably make this whole thing a lot easier. I didn't realize there was a difference between "Proto-Romanian" and "Proto-Eastern-Romance". I'd be interested in information on either. I'll definitely take a look at your conlang; it's good to kno...

Proto-Romanian Resources

Does anyone know where I could find information on Proto-Romanian? Specifically, a lexicon of reconstructed words and a grammar would be ideal, but I'd also take sound changes from Latin in a pinch. I'm trying to do an a posteriori Eastern Romance conlang and finding it surprisingly difficult to get...

This is a cool project; you've inspired me to make my own attempt at it. I'm excited to see your next segment.

I use LaTeX to format a dictionary. Although usually I just end up looking at the raw .tex file instead of the PDF it outputs.

Re: My first conlang: Proto-vidar

You should group your affixes by category; it's way easier to look at what's going on when in some kind of ordered fashion as opposed to your big list there. If there's any organizational scheme to it, I can figure it out. Something like this: past bla blah mood blah boop bleep etc. Also, you seem t...

Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread

My proto-lang contains the phonemes /dʑ g/ in its inventory and a descendant language lacks those two phonemes, how can I eliminate them realistically? Thanks! dʑ > dz > dz̻ > dð > ð > ∅ g > k > x > h >∅ Thank you :) You could even go down a different root and have: dʑ > ʑ > j > ∅ g > ɣ > ɰ > ∅ I'd...

Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread

Daedalon, all your vowel changes work. And what could be done to with [w̃] and [j̃] ? They might just lose the nasalisation. You could also have them influence surrounding sounds, so that [gw̃a] > [ŋw̃a] > [ŋʷa] or [ŋʷã] or something similar. Intervocalically or word-initially, perhaps > [nw] and [n...

Re: How are these unvoiced consonants pronounced?

[ɡ̊] is typically the same as [k]. It's used sometimes to indicate that the underlying phoneme is /g/. I think it may be used in some languages to indicate a third level of voicing, but I can't think of any examples right now. [n̊] can be approximated by [hn], yes. However, [n̊] and [hn] are not the...

Would it be too confusing/ugly to have <hb hd hg>, and thus <hBenésia>? (with the initial lowercase to keep with the Irish style of course)

Re: In search of isolating conlangs

I began an isolating project recently. So far the only morphological complexity I'm planning on is verbal aspect marking, nominal classifiers, and compounds. Serial verbs will be prominent, along with word order as an expression of grammatical features of the sentence. Another language I've done is ...

Re: Polysynthesis and Auxiliary verbs?

I'm probably guilty of Eskimo bias, yeah. From a paper I found titled "Covert Tense in Jarawara": Ohi nenano amaka. ohi na-hina-no ama-ka cry AUX-IRR+M-IP.N+M SEC-DECL+M ‘He almost cried.’ So in Jarawara at least, the auxiliary appears to be more of something to attach morphemes onto in situations w...

Are there any languages with strong polysynthetic tendencies that also make use of auxiliary verbs? It seems unlikely, but I'm no expert.
