Pretty sure both of you understood what I meant. Can we stop derailing this?

Kadimanrio
Giving Kadimanrio a brush up and putting it online. Grammar is a mix of a priori and a posteriori. Vocab is primarily a priori and loosely based mainly on German, French, and Spanish. This originally started as an imagined creole of the above three developed in a 18/19th C. Louisiana with a much lar...

Re: Some questions about the moon
Distance is the biggie missing from the above explanations. Move the moon much further in, and you'll put it inside the Roche limit, where it'll be torn apart and form a ring system. Move it further out and the tidal force (difference in the effect of gravity of a body on the two sides of another bo...

Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread
I'm having trouble finding anything on the genesis of triphthongs.so, two questions: 1) Can someone give me a short, simple overview of how triphthongs are generated? 2) With a inventory of /i a u/ for short pure vowels, /i: a: u:/ for long ones, /w j/ for semivowels, and /iw iu aj ai au aw uj/ for ...

Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread
For getting some aspirated and ejective stops and tone, do these changes work? unvoiced stop > aspirated stop/_long vowel unvoiced stop > aspirated stop/_/h/ unvoiced stop > ejective stop/_ /ʔ/ V: > V high tone VV > V low tone The protolang has long vowels, allows VV, with a glottal interruption bet...

I expect it'd be a lot like Discordianism (Hail Eris!) or the Church of the Subgenius (In Bob Dobbs we trust!).

Paper money doesn't explode if it gets dampened.

Dennis L. McKiernan's The Iron Tower - it's a close enough knock off to be accused of plagiarism. I'm actually surprised he wasn't sued by JRRT's estate.

Re: Non-Tolkienian fantasy
A few others of note:
The Borderland series was a nice punk feeling urban fantasy UA series back in the 80s.
And a huge gapping hole is Robert Howard's Hyborian works, especially the Conan stories.

Re: Non-Tolkienian fantasy
Anne McCaffrey's Pern is arguably fantasy and certainly not Tolkienian. I went through a period in my teens when I loved everything from Anne McCaffrey. I've since tried rereading some of them though and somehow they've gotten much worse in the last 15 - 20 years. Haven't read any of it in years my...

At risk of annoying people with further self-pimping, people may also find my 60 Influential Figures in Fantasy series of posts relevant to the topic. It's essentially a history of the fantasy genre (from the late 19th century on) via some of the most influential names. Plus associated reading list...

Re: Non-Tolkienian fantasy
Jessica Salmonson, C.J.Cherryh, Lian Hearn, and Barry Hughart, among others, have all written Asian themed fantasy. Glen Cook and Steven Brust used European cultures as foundations for non-Tolkienian fantasy. MAR Barker is IMHO the anti-Tolkien. Raymond Fiest popularized his world, even if he ripped...

Precisely. And I do remember someone aaaaages ago posting maps of a conworld that were basically those of the Earth from the Carboniferous (or something), so I didn't know if this was a reincarnation of that or a different project completely. Different project completely. Okay. :D Indeed it is comp...

Re: Latest maps
Dark red is tropical rainforest. There is no seasonal or monsoon rainforest due to the low axial tilt. The orange is a climate with no exact equivalent. It's savanna-like, but with year-round rainfall. (But not quite dry enough to be steppe.) The east coast mid-green is humid subtropical. The tan/be...

How did you create that Mollewide projection? And the other non square projections? I can't comment on climate either as I don't have a reference key. But I like the work you've done, it looks pretty good. It's a NASA program that you can download free - see the link in the resources linked in my s...
