Re: The dream thread

Last night I had a dream that was like a really funny TV show. At one point there was a joke that called for a pop culture reference, except no appropriate reference existed, so my brain invented an actress named Temple Pia just for the joke. Not only that, but it gave her enough of a backstory that...

Re: Help your conlang fluency

I'm playing with a Finnic language spoken in a few towns and rural areas in Leningrad, Novgorod, and Vologda Oblasts. (It's actually just Finnish with a dozen or so regular sound changes, a bit of semantic drift here and there, and a few Russian loan words.) Here's the Russian national anthem with l...

Turo is mostly inspired by Finnish and Greenlandic, though the former seems to come through more than the latter. I'm weighing the pros and cons of adding /q/.

Maybe it's because I spend so much time watching movies, but lately I've been having these long, vivid dreams that feel like movies, complete with compelling plots and coherent narrative structures. I'm playing with an abugida for my conlang Turo. I've never done a conscript before, and it's kind of fun - I wasn't originally intending to actually do anything with it, but I think I might keep it. This is a fact sheet about South Africa. It's mostly just names, not really interesting enough to tr...

Re: What are you reading, watching and listening to?

I'm watching a Danish political drama called Borgen , kind of a Scandinavian "West Wing." The show is pretty awesome, and I'd like to see ...
