Re: Flags
I figured I'd resurrect this thread rather than start a new one, seeing as there's some nice stuff here. This is the Icastrian flag: the Árumoahalez ([ˈaːɾʊˌmoaˌhaləs]), the Sun Wheel Flag. aarumoahalez.png The green field represents the old-growth forests which cover much of Icastria, and which hol...

Re: How to design a non-European grammar
Icastrian Five points: - postnominal relative clauses with inflected, resumptive relative pronouns (e.g. English "who" vs. "whose") - a periphrastic perfect formed with 'have' plus a passive participle (e.g. English "I have said") - there is a periphrastic perfect, but it's formed with "be" plus an...

Nice work. Depending on how much work you want to do to reach perfection, you can spend countless nights weeding out all the layers of IE loans. A particular one that jumped to my eyes is ja which in reality is a Germanic loan into Finnic. That will definitely be an ongoing sub-project - it's hard ...

Re: Turo
I derived the letter shapes (at least the majuscules) directly from Phoenician, but I may have overplayed the "coincidental similarity/convergent evolution" card. On the other hand, Phoenician letters are easy to write and most of them have some obvious directions to evolve in; IMO it's not inconcei...

Okay, one more thing for tonight. Numerals The numerals in the Icastrian alphabet are taken from the Icastrian names of the numbers. 0 - Ѳ for ℓŷstɛ thûste [θyːʃtə] (the name for zero is derived from thûs "empty") 1 - Ƶ for ɟoƕtɛ jokte [joktə] 2 - H for haƕtɛ hakte [haktə] 3 - U for uıstɛ viste [ʋɪʃ...

Turo
Turo is something I've been quietly working on for a while now, and it's a concept I don't think I've seen before: an a posteriori language with an a priori superstratum. This thread will not be a well-structured grammar of Turo, just a place where I'll keep track of linguistic and cultural notes an...

This stuck out to me too while playing that game. It's pretty clearly a retroflex [ɻ] rather than an alveolar [ɹ], which made me think Eastern Mohawk has /ɽ/ [ɻ], at least nowadays - I very much doubt they tried to reconstruct 18th century Mohawk phonology; it's not like us palefaces would know the ...
