hezketl - currency bead.

There are no coins in the conworld of Aptaye - most market transactions are done in a town market where beads are distributed to facilitate trading, so the currency is not a commodity in and of itself.

Latin "v" is /w/ (or /v\/, but no big diff)

there was a common change of initial [w] -> [gw], then [gw] -> [g].

I don't know if that's what happened in the Celtic langs, but it happened in French.

Is the idea to project the laryngeals as separate phonemes? If so, then the more there is the more problematic it gets, but if it is phones or just theoretical gaps then I don't see a problem. I'm not familiar with PIE, but when I say theoretical gap, I mean positing a sound to fill something that w...

Rotuman has massive amounts of grammatical metathesis and deletion, and some weird rules for handling vowel clusters. (/uO/ -> [wa], but /ua/ -> [wO]? the fuck?) that looks pretty cool actually. There's stuff there that conlangers seem to like to do all the time with vowel combinations and what-not.

Austin’s new science of speech acts was carried on for a while by many other philosophers, like John Searle and H. Paul Grice (who developed theories of ‘implicature’ that went some way toward explaining the rules governing the non-referential meaning in language). Their work has gone on to have co...

This is philosophy.
I meant the "history of" part but I was too lazy. I agree with Eddy that if this discussion feels like continuing, it should go to a different thread. Obviously you're the OP so you may not want to write anything more until the discussion ends, but I'm just adding my too sense.

An apico-uvular retroflex, made by touching the tip of the tongue to the uvula, should also be considered. That phone is sexy . I don't think I can physically do that. The closest I can get is the back of the blade of the tongue. I don't think I can touch anything further back than the soft palate ...
