Re: Akana Conlang Relay (Now with pumpkin.)
For the past few days there's been p. much just tumbleweeds o'er here and at Akana regarding the relay…what's the latest news? Can we start discussing, or at least seriously thinking about, daughterlangs?

Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.
So, how do we go about posting reports? Do we just make up a wall of text or something and post it here in the thread, and edit the Wiki articles accordingly? Speaking of Wiki articles, how much can/should we post, and how much leeway do we have as regards it? @Turtlehead – You should add your name ...

Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.
Uǧġġultavb how the hell you pronounce that, man? Something like [oʁɢːoltɒvb]. It came from the northern settlers' language. <ǧġġ> is one heckuva trigraph, though, eh? as for unnamed islands, yeah, I think the should be named. proposal pool open. That'll make it easier to include them in world histo...

I'm attempting to collate everything that has been mentioned in the thread thus far into the page. I've had to shuffle some of the times around, though, due to some of the later alterations mentioned in the thread; please review and flag any issues, disagreements, gripes, yadda yadda yadda &c. . Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.
Oh. Oh... that's... You see, I was originally planning for those to be mainly Qicui colonies (since they're ridiculously close to Qicui), as well as maybe some minor hybrid cultures taking in influences rather than all three of the neighboring big cultures (Qicui, Baktarci, your folks). I wouldn't ...

Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.
I think in the timeline I proposed above, some of the Qicui want the Viraayon as colonies, and some Viraayon would prefer the protection of those Qicui, some of which are admittedly more religious and/or greedy/commerce-focused, but generally tolerant and not as oppressive per se. However, the most...

Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.
The kings of the north, Rorshach should name them, I think, would have been quite a big state, possibly spanning as far as the unclaimed islands to the north of both the Baktarci and the Quici lands. I'ts even likely that it had plans for visiting violence upon their lands. So maybe someone, an off...

Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.
As for Baktarci involvement, I don't see why it would be too unlikely; england was involved in the overthrowing of Indian monarchs, for instance, and france in the latin american independencies. The kings of the north, Rorshach should name them, I think, would have been quite a big state, possibly ...

Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.
I think this might be the springing board for the first true non-local intervention by the Qicui. I have an idea for how this will resolve itself. My proposals for modifying adds religion as a minor - but important - factor to give some justification for initial Qicui intervention. Let's say that t...

Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.
@Ror: Sounds about right. I'm thinking of this. The main group from which Torco's and my groups descended came up from the south and settled in [ancient]. A monarchy of some sorts was established over the two islands by the northerners (my dudes) [-1300]. Some migratory nomads came in from the nort...

Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.
Also, I've made a draft map of the various Qicui city-states and kingdoms and their capitals, but I don't know if it's too fragmented and/or evenly sized (i.e. many of the states have roughly the same amount of territory) to make plausible sense. Do you guys think I should cut down on the number of...

@Torco & Ollock & cyberxkhan – You guys up for fleshing out our regional histories? The main group from which Torco's and my...

Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.
I've decided upon a name for my language: ’Aṣækikk, from the root ’-ṣ-k "speak", from PVQ root *q'-ts'-k (hence the <Q> in <PMQ>). It basically means "that which is spoken"; nothing really special here as far as that goes. So Torco has named his group the Viraayon Authority (hence the <V> in <PVQ>)....

Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.
More tentative Proto-Manriyu-[X] stuff. (What do you desire "Manriyu" to mean, Torco? I'll try and make a cognate.) Couple of changes to my sets of sound changes: /æ ɒ/ will be retained as distinct vowels as opposed to both going to /a/. /s/ just assimilates to the nearest consonant instead of the p...

Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.
So I'm attempting to figure out how to derive a lang based on triconsonantal roots naturalistically. I've been reading the TCR thread (it's been up in my browser for awhile, actually). Here's what I got so far, but before I show it, I'll address some of the earlier musings. accept: suggested addendu...

Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.
I was thinking more along the lines of sharing lexicon and areal features, but if you want to do an entire protolang, I'll have my guys learn it and mangle it into something new. Otherwise I'll just steal your lexicon anyway, arguing that my dudes are like the Japanese and they love to steal words ...

Re: Istion - an Age of Sail Conworld.
- want to have zie triconsonantal roots? go for it! I suck at making lexicons so tell you what, when you come up with a lexicon I'll steal it, as well as the tricon system, and build a lang out of it. that way, all of the North shall speak the same words, and there shall be peace and order. /inworl...

Some quick thoughts, now that my plane has landed and I am more or less settled for the remainder of the week or so. - Migration: Are the red and yellow arrows two different migration paths?
