Re: The upcoming (September 24) German federal election

The coalition agreement is a total fraud and the behaviour of certain party leaders, not just within the SPD, is outrageous in my opinion. I'm certainly curious about how the roughly 25.000 new SPD members will influence the vote, but I kinda stopped caring about the outcome since nothing good can c...

Re: The upcoming (September 24) German federal election

Now it is the time for Schulz, Nahles and the other SPD leaders to really get their shit together and reevaluate major parts of the pre-coalition talks agreement. If they don't, they're entering yet another government that won't implement anything the SPD campaigned for. Before the elections you hea...

Re: What do you call this?

Careful: a man once died for calling it [pæ̃ o ʃokola] instead of [ʃokolaˈtinə]. Holy shit what is that article. I mean I've seen an old man yell at a girl for not calling a pastry the local name, but that was general Berliner grumpiness. Pain o' chocolate is called Schokobrötchen "chocolate bun" h...

Re: Odd natlang features thread

Disfixes I guess are odd enough: There is a trend across Central German dialects to lenite certain intervocalic consonants, including combinations of a nasal and a plosive. Morphologically this meant such clusters were lenited in plural forms, where they'd be followed by a vowel, but not in singular...

Re: Quickie about stress in Italian

Clitics as in fabbrichiamocelo don't change stress, the verb is pronounced the same as fabbrichiamo without clitics. I never formally studied Italian and just have shitty native speaker intuition, so I can't give a definite answer to the first question. But thinking about it real quick, I can think ...

Re: The upcoming (September 24) German federal election

So you think one shouldn't call them nazis unless they re-enact nazi crimes? If not, would you care to elaborate, maybe relating to what I wrote? Or is the issue that I used nazi instead of neonazi ? It was in no way my intention to express sympathy or approval of the AfD! And I in no way wanted to ...

Re: The upcoming (September 24) German federal election

Well, the AfD are often accused of being Nazis, and some actually are, but most aren't . They are of course right-wing assholes, but not all right-wing assholes are Nazis, and most AfD members, while dreaming of a xenophobic authoritarian régime, expelling refugees and leaving the EU which is all b...

I feel like venting here even though I usually don't post at all. I had to go to my university's main building today to hand in a form I need them to fill out for me. I don't even remember when I felt this energetic doing something official for the last time. It didn't went as planned because bureau...

Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread

Assimilation like for example CʰVCʼ > CʼVCʼ would increase the frequency of ejectives in your language. Does it allow consonant clusters? If not, elide some vowels and get new ejectives out of clusters. Besides the obvious Cʔ ʔC, something like sC > Cʼ works too.

Bremspedal 6. Kupplung 7. Sicherheitsgurt/Anschnallgurt/Gurt 8. Handbremse 9. Gangschaltung* 10. Lüftun...

Re: Post your conlang's phonology

It's gotta be weird to have the only palatal approximant be lateral without a contrasting central /j/. I think Italian has /ʎ/ without /j/, actually, although it does have a few words in which /i/ is a glide, which even if not phonemic fills the "hole" where /j/ should be. https://en.wikipedia.org/...

You can not tell native speakers of a language to use or not use words in a certain way just because their usage doesn't correspond to that of your native language.
