Re: What are you reading, watching and listening to?

I will soon be watching one of my favorite so-dumb-it's-amazing movies ever. I finally broke down and bought my own copy and it came with a free digital download that's coming down the wires as I type.

Re: North Germanic in Ireland and Scotland

Oh, cool. I actually feel kind of silly now for not noticing it showing up where Old Norse showed u-umlaut. I guess I was having trouble breaking out of Old Irish mode, where I've seen L used to mark that a word triggers lentition, even though you said you weren't doing mutations.

Re: Øynduyska - A Germanic Language

Thank you! Your own West Saxon has continually nudged me back in the direction of Germanic conlanging, so this is in large part all your fault... Wow, I'm honored (I think :)) Unfortunately, the diachronic stuff is at present just a massive, convoluted, loophole-blighted SCA sound change list, and ...

Re: Venting thread

Tomorrow will be the second mother's day since Mum's passing and I'm a bit unnerved at how "raw" everything is suddenly feeling. I guess since it wasn't the first time I had my guard down and it snuck in. Gonna have to watch out for father's day next month.

Re: Øynduyska - A Germanic Language

I just read through this and I just got one thing to say: "damn!". I really like the look and feel of this language; it's satisfyingly Teutonic, while still having it's own distinct feel to it. It actually kind of reminds me of Lowan in that regard. Just wondering if you have any diachronic stuff on...

In your ending lists, what does the "L" mean? Did you explain it somewhere and I'm just blind?

Nah, my sorts of novels would be too genre-y to have the levels of pretentiousness that that picture warrants.

My work has a photographer take portrait shots for our intranet profiles. Might as well share my headshot. Everyone says it looks like it belongs on the dust jacket of a novel with pretentions of depth. Can't really disagree. https://scontent-dft4-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/12963616_10103191911615500_2...

Re: Venting thread

So it seems like someone hacked into my brother's Gmail/Youtube account and changed the contact information, meaning that there seems to be nothing we can do to verify his identity, so his account is basically trashed. Everything we see seems to say "go through the account recovery tool. Oh, that di...

Re: Settings for your conlangs?

Yeah, the politics of it all and the dynastic issues are one of my main pain points. Sadly I haven't found any really good source to really let me nail down my timeline, hence the rather vague and waffling nature of it atm. Eventually I'll find some good info that will let me make a timeline that gi...

Re: Settings for your conlangs?

I'm starting to lean more towards the rebellions in Western Mercia lead by Eadric the Wild with aid from Gwynedd and Powys being more successful, and maybe having William fall during the siege of Exeter. That would put the focus of the rebellion in the right area at least. Then, in response to Willi...

Re: Settings for your conlangs?

The Kings of England before Harold Godwinson were actually the closest descendants of the Kings of Wessex, so the rebellion seems a bit unlikely. Harold Godwinson himself was Earl of Wessex (his father was instaled by the Danes) before becoming King of England. Most likely, the English forces would...

Re: Venting thread

Mum passed away from her own heart issues three months later (I suspect the stress of Dad set it off), necessitating my breaking the lease on my ap...

Re: Settings for your conlangs?

The center of my focus at the moment is set in the real world in the late fifteenth century. It's basically history as we know it with two significant differences: 1) The Azores were colonized by Proto-Indo-European-speaking peoples. Though they had developed bronze by the time they arrived in the ...
