Re: Linguistic Terms in Your Conlangs

mappum "a word with another word infixed inside it" mappup "a word infixed inside another word" From borrowed terms meaning 'pregnant' and 'unborn baby'. The word for alphabet, toppte , is a borrowed term for a collection of stamps ( top ), since that's generally what they had whenever the whole al...

Re: Post your conlang's phonology

-One of the daughterlangs has the palatal coarticulates front to labial-alveolars and become phonemic, so it'll have even more delicious coarticulated sounds than before :D Excellent. I'm thinking that once I have developed Leþwin to the point where I can translate some texts, and generate Leþwini ...

Re: Post your conlang's phonology

Yeah, it's a bit rough around the edges. And one thing I would like to do is get rid of /u/ but I'm unsure if this is attested in other languages, I see that typically languages have at least /i u a/. Seeing as though it may be a staple of phonemic inventories I ought to keep it. Eh no. Most Englis...

Re: Post your conlang's phonology

Doubly attested, Kvan approved. Allophones definitely help me save on phoneme count on my already cumbersome phonology. Not to mention using regular l and not having to worry about another diacritic is wonderful. If there's one thing I hate it's l's inability to form an aesthetically pleasing relati...

Re: Post your conlang's phonology

I struggled for a bit to put this into Code but it was too tiresome and I have little time before I go into work so I'm opting for good old fashioned // and <> So I have been working out the grammar of Leþwin for some time. I've mapped out the verb template and I'm currently working on the morphemes...

(technically "without clouds") but that's as close as Leþwin comes thus far to "cloudless"

Alright as a cheese lover I find that fucking phenomenal as well as justifiable.

Is that suffix added to the animal from which the milk came? For instance cow-cheese, sheep-cheese etc.

A bunch of these in Trurian: tuteon - to engage in sexual reproduction (for non-milk-giving animals, e.g. pigs or horses) Yeah, the Trurians really like their sheep... Or perhaps they just love sheep milk (or milk in general). So much so it seems that if animals which give up milk fuck they have a ...

Perhaps a new text to alter, taken from page 211 of Being and Nothingness by Jean Paul Sartre The for-itself endures in the form of a non-thetic consciousness (of) enduring. But I can "feel the time which flows"and apprehend myself as a unity of succession. In this case I am conscious of enduring. T...

Leþwin has one idiosyncratic word so far:

Re: Post your conlang's phonology

Yeah, I kept rereading it thinking the same thing.

Rounded inherently means labializing. The lips round while articulating "rounded" consonants not the tongue curling. Those would be, I guess if you had a curled tongue, retroflex. Depending of course on the type of "curling" you're doing.

I added it before you responded, /'/ is an glotal stop. But yeah, I should probably come back when I learn X-SAMPA or IPA transcription. The sound produced by "cupping the tongue" was described as a "labial" on a wiki page I can not find anymore but it was about a salish language. Cupping the tongu...

Re: Monosyllabicity without tone

Perhaps varied types of phonation as well.

Though phonations like creaky, faucalized and breathy sometimes come with a phonemic tone, you could merely have a set of vowels differentiated with phonation. I did that with my language.
