There are a couple of new tools to talk about, such as my vocabulary generation tool Gen, and the Visual SCA. (Which doesn’t exist yet, but would be a complete update of the SCA, handling things like transposition, management of your phoneme inventory, and highlighting changes between runs.) About ...

Re: Odd natlang features thread
You talk a whole lot about your own dialect but seem to just ignore what other people say about their own. I use it as an example a lot because it is a variety that I can speak of reliably other than General American, whereas for most other language varieties I can generally only go by what I have ...

Yes, "that we left" is an NP, at least that's how I parse it: (That (we left)) ((should impress) Phoebe).Matt wrote:That we left should impress Phoebe.
A friend asked me how I would draw a syntax tree for this sentence and I'm stumped. Is that we left behaving as an NP here?

You must also provide an English translation, as not everyone is going to know these languages. Okay, so I'm up first. Great, I'll get to it :) So how do I handle this English translation thingy? Do I just put it in the PM with everything else, or what? Just making sure cuz I don't want to jeopardi...

Re: Gotten vs. got
My usage pattern is the same as linguofreak's: I've got a cold sounds okay but * I have got a cold is an obvious Britishism. On "got" vs. "gotten", pretty much what you expect: "I've got a cold" means "I have a cold"; "I've gotten a cold" means "I just caught a cold" or "I've caught a cold before". ...

Re: Methods of generating lexicon
Just a couple of weeks ago I discovered the esoteric programming language Thue . It's basically just string rewriting; the program is an initial string and a set of rewrite rules, which are applied at random. I've used it to make a Bengedian word generator. Hasn't seen much use yet, but yeah. Here's...

Appreciate you trying to help, but next time, before you suggest something, check whether it's already here. Redundancy isn't always good.
