Re: Creativity of the day
If you can call it creative, my keyboard felt a little clunky (had it through 2 comps for about 7 years) while I was doing some writing. So I spent the entire night taking all the keys off and cleaning out underneath    The Ktuvok might have appreciated the state of it under there....

Re: Great history books
I've got 3 great 'Historical Atlas' style books which have proven very useful for me. The Times History of War is a great modern book which goes over the major conflicts of history, including basic technical information and a good grounding on conflicts through time. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/ima...

Re: What are you reading, watching and listening to?
I am reading the 'Honor Harrington' Novels by David Weber - Basically a sci fi series heavilly influenced by the Horatio Hornblower novels. Most of his novels are available free (legally!) at http://baencd.thefifthimperium.com/01-HonorverseCD/HonorverseCD/ Up to book 3 at present and though it is ha...

Re: Against Peace and Freedom out soon!
The AFAP book page isn't done yet... curiously, it lists some shady-looking resellers but not Amazon itself. It's supposed to be available on other Amazons, though I'm not sure how that works-- it looks like the LCK but not the PCK is available on amazon.de. I'll have to ask about that. That's abou...

Re: Historical atlas redone
Just a random query from a look through the atlas: In the 2620c map, Ornakh in Demoshimor is marked as a blue city (50,000 pop) - however in the 3480c map, it is again blue (60,000) I know the Munkhashi/Dekhenkami don't generally like cities, but I would have thought that the capital would have grow...

Re: Almeopedia
Not sure if it has been mentioned, but a good deal of maps from the Historical Atlas of Arcel are missing. A few are still there, but most have gone to the ether.

Just a note (Not sure if it is my browser or generally - I'm using Opera) Clicking on the Almeopedia links in the commentary is garbling them and i'm just ending up with something like Mëranac for Mëranac

Re: Historical atlas redone
Nicely done. The new maps look really nice (Been doing something similar for my conworld, but I simply cannot get mountains looking that good) The new position of Gurdagor (And the Chia Sha and Mgunkipe) is the only thing that hit me as seeming 'wierd' compared to my last read of the old atlas. I kn...

Re: What are you reading, watching and listening to?
Reading: David Eddings - The Belgariad series. Extremely lightweight fantasy and not particularly interesting. That was my opinion about ten years ago as well, and wouldn't have touched it except that a friend gave me the series for my E-reader. Watching: Finished a rewatch of Azumanga Daioh yesterd...

Re: Creativity of the day
After working all weekend, got 20 pages of conworld background (Planetary system, moons, climate, calendar) updated from a load of old notes, some of which are 10 years old, and into a single document *phew* Next to get some biology stuff done (always helpful to have this stuff in one document) Make...

Re: The West Saxon Thread (Now Showing: Stress!)
Just to say, as someone who lives in the heart of what was Wessex (Exeter, or Exanceaster to our OE buddies) This is certainly a really fun project. I have long thought what English may have ended up like if a certain william decided to trip over his shoelace and cracked his head open at some point ...

Reading: Robert Jordan - Path of Daggers (please don't hit me)
Watching: last thing I watched was Avatar
Listening: Had Blind Guardian's latest album (At the edge of time) on repeat for weeks now. But the most played song is probably (Due to me reading it) The Wheel of Time

I am reading Fires of Heaven by Robert Jordan.
Terrible world creation, awful failed attempt at a conlang, but just about an interesting enough a story and characters to keep me interested.

More than anything I am glad that people took this over when I went AWOL a couple of years back. Many thanks for that! (I still remember pulling a 6 hour shift to get it counted and done on Jan 1st back in like 2004 or something

Re: For what it's worth ($0.04)
People have remarked before that Axunai and Xurno are reminiscent of China to a degree, but I could see some France in there as well -- there's perhaps a touch of Saint-Simonism in the Xurnese state in particular. Cheiy always struck me as as sort of Tibet, with an element of Japan/Vietnam/Korea in...

And of course, the first muskets were very slow to load and difficult to aim, although they could do a fair amount of damage when they did hit. Not even this was assured - there is the famous scene from the "Simplicissimus" (often dubbed the first modern German novel, written in the 17th century an...
