Re: Rangyayo (now with vocabulary learning course on Memrise
Desmond, I know this is such a horribly late reply; I just want to thank you so much for creating that memrise course! My birthday was on the same day you posted the last post, and so you could not have given me a better gift! Over the last year I have been absolutely obsessed with Rangyayo, creatin...

Re: Out of exotic ideas
You all make good points. Yng, I understand your point for sure. Yet, I really can't seem to understand what makes the grammar of Mon-Khmer languages much different than English, other than lack of plural and person, and the existence of serial verbs (all features which I have included in my grammar...

Re: Out of exotic ideas
Niger-Congo languages sometimes have SOV order, but it's fairly different from Asian SOV languages (and closer to Indo-European languages in some ways). They mix modality with pronouns, with a result somewhat between an aspect/tense-inflected pronoun and an auxiliary verb. Cool! I really like that....

Out of exotic ideas
That title probably sounds pretty stupid; I mean, I totally understand the notion that (and I think Rosenfelder mentions this in his kit) when one first has a go at conlanging, it is often extremely attractive to use every single odd or non-IE feature of languages one has learned about. I wish I cou...

Anyone know how to pronounce Ratonhnhaké:ton? (Mohawk)
It's the name of the main character on the new Assassin's Creed game. Through much of the beginning the characters seem to be speaking Mohawk, but I'm not sure if they're actually speaking it or if it's just gibberish. Sounds pretty natural to me. Anyway, anyone know how the Mohawk would pronounce R...

Re: Nouns in Kŋau
So to express a clause as you mentioned "inside" of the house, Kŋau speakers literally say "in the stomach of the house"? Very symbolic, I like.

Re: Nouns in Kŋau
I really like this. Is your language intended to be Asian? It actually reminds me of my conlang somewhat, because of the fairly isolating morphology and short words, as well as the initial clusters ;) I got that idea from Khmer; are you emulating something similar? I also have a quite a few words th...

Re: Life on a gas giant, the conworld
If this has already been mentioned here, forgive me. I saw a program on Discovery a few years back (don't remember the name) about hypothetical plant-like organisms in Jupiter's gaseous atmosphere. Basically, the plant was like a balloon, with a long "stem" hanging down. During daytime, the sun woul...

Here is conlang in the Klai language. It is pronounced [pˡəːsa̰ː ɟl ĩ ək̚ sʉð̞] Click the image for a high-def version http://sortsdam.wikkii.com/w/images/sortsdam/uploads/1/1d/Conlang_klai_small.png Or this one http://sortsdam.wikkii.com/w/images/sortsdam/uploads/4/42/Conlang_klai_borders_small.png

Re: Rangyayo (now with info on Rangya & samples on Youtube!)
Yes Desmond the first solution is the best I must also say. By the way, when you do come up with an up-close map of Rangya, I will go apeshit. :D I'm trying to do this for my con-country right now as well. Edit: I also thought I would mention, I very much like the location of Rangya, but I think it ...

This looks very cool, and I also must say I very much appreciate the vowel system. By the way, are all rhoticized vowels also creaky-voiced?

Maybe someone has already said it, but I think that the Word Creation section could be improved. I feel like it simply goes over the Speedtalk meme, and stops after that. It would be really cool to see any actual methods or patterns for word creation.

Desmond, very interesting with the vowel harmony table! I can see what you mean by "stronger" words with positive vowels and vice versa. Keep working on it!

Re: Rangyayo (now with 2 audio samples on Youtube!)
Desmond this all looks really cool! Again, I love the Yenmun and Hanji mix. I am curious, I read (I think on your Conlang Wiki page) that Rangyayo at one point had vowel harmony; does it still apply in any way, like to suffixes or inflections? I would be interested in seeing a demo of Rangyayo vowel...

Very informative Desmond, thank you! This is by far the most interesting (to me) conlang I have seen yet. Keep up the good work my friend! (I also hope to see more about the country itself on conworld wiki

Re: Rangyayo (now with 2 audio samples on Youtube!)
So would tsungyangkhyu be written chungyangkhyu then? About Hanji, I was wondering how many readings there are of each? As you know, in Japanese there are the on readings and the kun readings. Are there both Sinitic and native Rangyan readings for hanji, or are native words written only with Yenmun?...

Further proof that English is turning into Danish: I have stød in that word. :P That's one feature that I can't distinguish in my speech. Should I record example words and post them for someone to pick apart? Are you from Denmark? I always thought stød was very interesting, but quite hard to recogn...
