Re: Kirroŋa
Nominal Rework Incoming I'm making this minor update to inform you all that I am currently in the process of reworking and substantially altering Kirroŋa's nominal system. This will entail several new cases entering the language--at least two are locked down as of now: the Causal and Semblative/Ess...

Re: Venting thread that embraces everyone without distinctio
I posted this on the CBB, and I don't feel like editing it to fit here so I'm just posting it here: Does anyone else ever get a sort of "extreme niche blues" when conlanging? I've been working a lot on Kirroŋa recently, and I'm often spending 4-8 hours working on it. All this time of my life spent, ...

Re: Kirroŋa
Tweaks and Clarifications This is a little "side-post" of some little tweaks I have made to Kirroŋa--adjustments of suffixes, a few minor alterations here and there, clarifications on various things, etc.. I am currently working on a full post which lists some more verbal affixes; I felt that these...

Re: Venting thread that embraces everyone without distinctio
Well, I worked something out with my school. They've got me in their claws again. I'm only taking nine hours, or three classes, because it would be impossible to pay off the balance otherwise. Also I still owe 260 bucks but I have December to pay that off. I have no intention on passing any of these...

Re: Venting thread that embraces everyone without distinctio
No but it would vindicate me. Make me realize that other people suffer just like I do. All I see is happy people. People who live their worthless fucking lives unawares of how much other people suffer. I hate hearing people laugh. I hate seeing people with their friends. I hate hearing about other p...

Re: Venting thread that embraces everyone without distinctio
I feel I should probably clarify the catch-22 my university has placed me in. I can't register because I have an 800-dollar outstanding balance, 200 of which was legitimate and the other 600 being bullshit fees they tacked on behind my back (but I digress). I can't realistically pay this 800-dollar ...

Re: Venting thread that embraces everyone without distinctio
I owe 800 on the previous semester. I can use loans for the current semester to pay off the previous ones, but only after the current semester is paid for. Basically, if the current semester costs 12,000, I'd need to take out at least 12,800 in loans, so that there's 800 left over for paying off the...

Re: Venting thread that embraces everyone without distinctio
Amazing. I can't register for college unless I either
A) Somehow produce $800 that my family doesn't have
B) Take on $10,000+ in debt
Not sure how I'm gonna break this news to my parents. I mean, the root of the problem was my mother and my school simultaneously fucking me over but still.

Re: The Great Proto-Indo-European Thread
Only three, huh? I'll keep them as a distinct subclass but this language has literally 20 different verb classes at this point. I think I'm gonna have to run some analogy and simplification through the verbal system or it's gonna be a complete mess.

Re: The Great Proto-Indo-European Thread
Are there any examples of nasal-infix presents whose roots ended in either /w/ or /j/? In my apost lang if such roots exist, then they would split off into a separate athematic class from the other nasal-infix presents (which instead innovated a new class, from the ones which ended in a laryngeal, w...

Op, this is Danish's phonology (fuck you autocorrect Danish is a word): https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9b/Danish_monophthongs_chart.svg/250px-Danish_monophthongs_chart.svg.png You've got a long way to go before you reach the depths of insanity the Germanic languages can reach.

Hm. The idea of resurrecting a dead Stative conjugation is interesting, but it sounds like that wouldn't really be plausible. I would like that spreadsheet too.

Re: The Great Proto-Indo-European Thread
My copy of Indo-European Language and Culture by Benjamin W. Fortson IV states on page 95 that Indo-Europeanists posit that PIE had an additional "voice" along with the traditional Middle and Active; specifically, a Stative, with the endings traditionally considered Middle, the Middle itself using s...

Re: Venting thread that embraces everyone without distinctio
Ugh. College starts today. This marks the first/Fall semester of my third year. Except I haven't even registered yet. Now, that's mainly because of financial issues and scrambling to get holds taken off of my account, but the truth of the matter is that I have no motivation to go to college right no...

Re: The Innovative Usage Thread
This is very minor, but I am currently watching some Let's Plays by a person who consistently pronounces "gauge" with [a] (or whatever the low back vowel phoneme of English is, don't feel like pulling out IPA for this) instead of the expected [ej]. She (or he...they have an androgynous voice) has do...

Re: Venting thread that embraces everyone without distinctio
I think I've truly torpedoed my relationship with my mom. She was doing my hair today and trying to manipulate my dad into spending money he doesn't have. I got pissed so I finally called her out on stealing 100 bucks from me. She got very indignant and started making up this bullshit about how she ...

Come on, people! Make some noise. Before I begin, I have some minor errata of previous posts: -The Dative ending for regular nouns is now -an for words which end in a consonant such as idat "boy" or kraṭ "dog". The chart in the first post will be updated as soon as possible to reflect this. This als...

Re: Venting thread that embraces everyone without distinctio
Incredible. I have learned that my mother has flat-out stolen 100 bucks from me. My father had given me 200 bucks, which we were going to save to get his taxes done so I can do some FAFSA stuff for my school. Well, my account is actually owned by my mom--I'm simply listed on it as a "co-owner", of s...

Re: Trigender Biology Inquiry
I hate to be that guy but you're actually talking about trisexual biology. Gender is a facet of a sentient being's personal viewpoint on their identity, and is a cultural construct. As for your mammals, OP, I don't see why C would really be needed. But if such a system did exist, I'd assume that bot...

Re: How to design a non-European phonology
Sheesh that's higher than I expected. That's because you used the very first version of the questionnaire, which: 1. is so shit the points don't even sum up to 100 2. tends to give higher scores than the newer ones I'd try again with the version Pogostick Man used. Oh. Well since the test isn't in ...

Re: Kirroŋa
The choice of <q> for /ts/ and <c> for /tʃ/ seems a tad odd to me, when it's precisely the opposite in pinyin. May I suggest: /ts dz tʃ dʒ ʈʂ ɖʐ/ <c z q j c̣ ẓ> or <s z x j ṣ ẓ> Other than that tiny nitpick, everything looks great. I love all the morphophonological bits, I feel like they really add...

Kirroŋa A language whose native name simply means "(The) Language", Kirroŋa is the native language of the Binnan people and the official one of their homeland, Binnanni Lateŋ (often just called "Binnanni", even though that's technically a genitive), a country on Thōselqat. Binnanni exists on the co...

Just how exactly do Semitic tri-consonantal roots work?
Yup, another thread about these languages. Can you really blame us, though? Semitic langs have captivated us conlangers for years because of their extremely interesting morphology which appears utterly restricted to their family. On first glance, they appear to be wonderfully logical: take an abstra...

Haha wow. I went to my school today figure out why my tuition bill skyrocketed and you would not fucking believe what they told me. They truly fucked me over. So, going back to the Fall 2015 semester. I had to pay off that semester's tuition fully in order to go to my spring 2016 semester, right? We...
