Re: CCC Naming languages - Thru SUN 3/23

Have a go next round. You don't lose your culture if you miss a stage, it's just considered "stagnant". If I don't do a naming language for Gaak, it doesn't matter, I'll probably do something for them next time.

Re: Yorkshire POUR-POOR merger and [t~r] allophony

"shurrup", "gerroff" "gerraway" "tara" Ah yes, now I know. Cilla Black (Liverpool) used to say things like that. She also used to "We're gonna have a lorra lorra laffs." (lots of laughs) Actually, come to think of it, I sometimes say "shurrup" and "gerrof", but that's imitation, and I wasn't really ...

Re: CCC Naming languages - Thru 3/21 or so

Dragolm History Around the year 2500, new golems were being designed, ones to understand and better manipulate sapient species. Unfortunately they came with a defect: their understanding of sapience led them to compassion and “humanist” leanings. They objected to the slavery of the dragons, which b...

Re: Yorkshire POUR-POOR merger and [t~r] allophony

I've got a POUR-POOR merger:
shore/sure [ʃɔː]
moor/more [mɔː]
tour/tore [tʰɔː]

Though...
door [dɔː]
dour [dæɵ̯ɜ̯]

But I also have a PURE-POOR split. Usually, if a traditionally /ʊə/ word doesn't come after /j/ (and some other, less predictable cases) then it becomes /ɔː/.

Re: CCC Naming languages - Thru 3/21 or so

Guop History The Guop orcs had started to domesticate the urnp more and more, in time developing two strains: one for transport and one for meat (through a process of centuries) This made life easier, taking them away from a life of hunting, scavenging and even cannibalism. However, around the turn...

Re: Happy Things Thread

My back hurts because I've been doing falls and rolls. I did an ukemi without support of my hands, and straight over my head, instead sideways over my shoulder. I also jumped over two people and fell on the floor quite well.

But it hurts, and tomorrow I'm gonna be stiff as hell.

Re: CCC Naming languages - Thru 3/21 or so

This morning I worked a bit on Dragolm history (in parallel with Guok and Gaak). But maybe someone else would like to work on the language part?

Re: CCC Naming languages - Thru 3/21 or so

I have three cultures, but wouldn't mind giving one to someone else. Actually, whilst I'm thinking of it, I'm more interested developing the orcs and amphibimorph/monkees. So would anyone like to take on the Dragolm empire? I already had developed some ideas for it, so will share those, but it's up ...

Re: CCC Naming languages - Thru 3/21 or so

I'm okay with what Zompist proposes. I think this project works well being light and mobile, but without losing the quality. I'm already having loads of ideas for what happens when Lulweon and the Č'irah run into each other. I've got various ideas. A brainstorming of ideas. I don't know where to sta...

Re: CCC Land Grab

Guom and Gaak cultures will be spreading, but there'll be little political unity. Dragolm will spread as an empire, but factions will be developing, which could be adopted.

I'm not interested in a monopoly, that would make this boring.

Re: Culture voting - RESULTS Wed 3/5

I wonder if we can develop some sort of semi-standardized language presentation format for this. I like that idea. It's something I can follow (my efforts will be limited anyway). Maybe we can do a naming language + more, a few example sentences as well as names for continents, lakes and so on. I h...

Here are my requests for my cultures.

Gaak
Q-1r

Guop
B-4

Dragolm
W10r, W9, W9r, X9, X9r, W8r, X8

That should leave Sal and Mornche some room to expand. If not, I'm sure we can work something out.

Re: Culture voting - RESULTS Wed 3/5

I'm thoroughly disturbed. I just received this message from the Dragolm... "We are the Dragolm. Lower your borders and surrender your lands. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile." Thanks for the votes! (...

Re: Culture voting - Thru Mon 3/3

Extending the deadline does seem sensible if more people want to vote. What I did was read through each entry as they were published. The ones I liked I put on a short list. Later I could compare them and eliminate until I was left with five (if I needed to refresh my memory of a culture I'd skim th...
