Re: Using "disordered speech sounds" as phonemes in my conla

They are rodents - their hearing could be better than humans.

And my rats bruxed pretty loud - I didn’t have to strain to hear them

Re: Using "disordered speech sounds" as phonemes in my conla

Rats make a noise called bruxing when they’re happy - that sounds like repeated teeth scraping/banging

Learning Materials in your conlangs

I just found a translation of a language textbook I made into an ols project language of mine. I think it was some sort of Occitan-type romlang, but was surprised how much work I´d put in it. So though I'd share and ask if anyone else has or had a similar project. A link to Projeite 1 is attached if...

I found this incredibly interesting, and will be sure to use the ideas here if I ever plan a language such as this. I'll definitely bear this in mind. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

Have you thought about travel in the opposite direction?

Have the US expel some Native Americans to Liberia - would that be a possibility?

I really think you need to read the Language Construction Kit again, both for the basic vocabulary, and to get an idea of why completely random sound changes kind of defeats being a conlanger...

Re: Evolving Nat-langs for a conlang/world

3. Would it be a bad idea to get rid of the "taken for granted" aspirated phonetics so all descendant languages don't have to worry about them being there or not? It seems to me since I can't find a source that expressly states them that it would be better to just assume they've all been rendered a...

Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread

I can't remember exactly where I was going with this (possibly some sort of "initial mutation" scenario after reading something on Facebook), but does > [β ð ɣ] adjacent to [r] (and possibly [l] and maybe [z]) seem plausible, with remaining as such in all other positions? I might be remembering som...

Re: Tropical Agriculture enquiry

Hmm it seems I was't too clear - I meant rather that if the tropical zone was dominant/more or less united culturally, what crop package would win out? Which tropical package is the most attractive? Rice farming? Cassava? Maize? Would sapients resist unfamiliar crops? An example here in Galicia - th...

Tropical Agriculture enquiry

I'm attempting to get my head around the possibilities for a world, maximalising development according to Diamond's Guns, Germs and Steel, maybe using the excellent Jaredia as a base, and I wondered what would the agricultural package look like on an ecologically united world? Particularly the tropi...

Syllable Structure by Language

Could anyone point me to a resource listing the syllable structures of natural languages? You can usually find what your looking for, if you do a little digging, but after searching unsuccessfully for the syllable structure of proto-Dravidian, I wondered if people had been so drustrated before. Alte...
