Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread

Is [œ ø ʏ y] backing to [ɔ o ʊ u], perhaps via [ʌ ɤ ɯ̽ ɯ] plausible? How else to get rid of front rounded vowels without simply unrounding them or them leaving semivowels everywhere?

Re: Formation of Labials and Nasals

There’s a plenty of ways to derive labials and nasals.

For example, rhinoglottophilia can produce nasals out of guttural consonants and labials can arise from velars before rounded vowels.

Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread

A quick question since I'm finally trying to settle down with the sound history of Kišta. Suppose that there's a change of Vi sequences to plain long vowels VV with optional fronting or raising but this change doesn't happen for all vowels. Is this type of a straightening generally more likely to h...

Re: How to design a non-European phonology

Azatri. I expect a highish score as I intend it to look vaguely European. 1. Absence of any phonemic POA for stops further back than velar [half mark for only one stop-POA behind velar, or for prominent allophonic stops behind velar] ✔ 2. Phonemic voicing ✔ 3. Phonemic voicing only on stops and fric...

Re: My first Conlang, Ámarú

What does ‘the language is syllabic’ mean?

Also, you wrote that your conlang has no consonant clusters, but below you wrote that possible syllable onsets are C{y, w}, which are consonant clusters.
