Right... So it's saying any "x" or "y" that i see turn into "a".
What about if it's in reverse... {a} > {x,y} does that mean either "x" or "y", or does it mean output as "xy"

What are these sentence parts?
The sentence is "...as he pulled it back up" I'm trying to figure out how to translate to my language but I don't know how to break up "pulled it back up". "Pulled" is the verb, "it" is the noun, What then is "back" and "up"? "Up" and "back" are adjectives without the other, but "back" in this case ...

Re: Adpositional Adverb Complex Sentence word order
Thanks for the help ^.^
The "and" at the end was what someone told me on another site months ago. It didn't look right.
I think I understand how to do it now.

Adpositional Adverb Complex Sentence word order
I've looked all over the place and can't figure this out... I'm basically trying to figure out where the adpositional adverb goes in this complex sentence and I can't find anywhere that discusses this topic. It is the very few times I think that people are trying to be too simple in their examples t...

Eldruhin Mk2
Ok, starting 2nd thread, because I think the choices I've made have significantly changed the language I'm working on enough that it can be considered different... Previous thread link: http://www.incatena.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=44505 Eldruhin... is an SOV language. places genitives after the noun....

Re: Eldrin
"Lion-like fighter", it seems to work to me :D hahaha. Have you seen how long Sri Lankan names get? Perhaps you're channelling that. All languages have these names in meaning or similar. The my issues that it seems like a fairly long name for a singular name ^.^ I assume what you mean by greater pl...

Re: Eldrin
I myself would expect emuh to be in the locative, so "emuhjir". "At the start". ahh you're right that it should be. But also, if I understand correctly; Start/Begin = verb +ing = imperfect tense Then we're making it a noun so it should be "Emuhsujir" shouldn't it be? Your word list document is help...

I just noticed the first line of the translation...
"In the Beginning" is translated to "Emuhlu" and from what I understand it should Emuhsulu because it datative and imperfect... is that right?

Re: Eldrin
You could have case marking be a clitic and be on the end of noun phrases. This is how the English " 's " works. It basically is a clitic for the genitive case. Like "the queen of England's jewels" or "the man that I saw yesterday's book". It just means you have a bit less freedom in word order. I ...

Re: Eldrin
That is a lot of mood distinctions for regular constructions. You might want to think of merging a lot of them. Also, if Inferrential is indicative + intonation (I presume you mean intonation rather tone, there is a difference between them in linguistics), then there should also be other mood_1 + i...

Ok here is what I'm thinking right now indicative = The lack of any of the others indicates this mood subjunctive = wa - participle comes before the verb effectively making this turn sentences from "he runs" to "he will run" Optative = tɕi̯ɑlan - participle comes before the verb like the above tuns ...

I'm not sure which way is better. I definitely think question words are probably better than a marking, but I do like the participle approach too for various things.

mèþru, I'll take note of that if I write something like that again. Alaphones, I will likely not be able to do that, just because I'm not informed enough and I don't plan to get informed enough ever to make those distinctions well, so it is probably best to leave them alone mostly. I'll eventually l...

Nachtuil, The problem is that I'm not making it expressively one word order and I'm using 2... OSV has the problem of (Noun Noun Verb). English we do "Him He Kills" in Eldrin it would be "He He Kill" or "Bob and Susan Bill Help" which is just confusing at times so by throwing in a indicator it solve...

Re: Eldrin
Figured some more stuff... Word order can be SVO or OSV. The Subject and Object always have an indicator between which also tells the mood. The indicator in SVO may come before or after the Verb. Subject can be dropped in either ordering, but often is not in OVS. When the subject is dropped it is as...

mèþru, there are a number of issues with that. The gods don't write things down. Re: Eldrin
Are finite and infinitive forms necessary to differentiate? I mean, if I have present tense unmarked, and then mark each of the other tenses, doesn't that make all those tenses the infinitive forms anyways? and where there is no other tense it is present/finite.. What I'm thinking is that a verb wil...
