I think a found a bug in SCA²

So, I have a rule: tis/c/V(C)_# This rule requires two categories: C=mnptḱkǩbƂdƋǵgĝğǥs₁₂₃rlywʦcčjǰĵɉšṧfvʎ V=eéēḗoóōṓuúūùiíīìṛṝḷḹṃṇaáāà Let's use this as our example input: pótis If we put all of this into SCA²... pótis It doesn't work. /tis/ does not become /c/ as the rule clearly states it should. ...

Re: noun adjective order cross-linguistically

In English, the unmarked order for adjectives, when the adjective is modified by something starting with a preposition, is actually after nouns: a warrior worthy of his attention, a woman pleasant to talk to, a book easy to read. That's certainly a grammatical construction, but I wouldn't call it u...

Isn't it more like [kɛn] vs [kɑn(t)]? That distinction is a rather English thing. As a North American - specifically, Canadian - I also use [æ] in both cases, but I only actually pronounce the vowel in 'can' if it is at the beginning or end of an utterance. Medially, I drop the vowel and syllabiciz...

Re: Native speakers giving misleading information

Ah, yes, that sort of thing. Reminds me of the times I've seen speakers of various Indo-Aryan languages insist that Sanskrit is the most specialest and perfectest language of all, and in some cases that the "Indo-European" languages are all actually direct descendants of Sanskrit. Even languages li...

By what measure is someone's guilt "super obvious"? There are certainly cases out there where someone was convicted of something big like murder and put in jail, and everyone though it was "super obvious" at the time, but then later developments show that the convicted was actually innocent. The cou...
