Re: Proto-Romanian Resources
The wonderful thing is, Romanian has whole sound changes and grammatical paradigms borrowed from the local Slavic languages. Stuff like à -> ə, ò -> u, šč > št, CoRC -> CRoC, the feminine vocative in -o, etc I think the most likely situation - given also the huge amount of Slavic borrowings in the v...

Re: The Innovative Usage Thread
Does English take complements of its copula in the objective or subjective case?
I.e., which is correct: That is he/That is him, The leader is who/The leader is whom ?
Indoeuropean languages tend to make copular complements nominative, but I dunno about english

The fact it said "shuar" in your sample kinda gave it away. I'll go with this:
naştë së e nëpiwë, pëk unëz oştë poeçe.

Re: The Innovative Usage Thread
Sometimes I say 'another X than Y' instead of 'another X from Y'
it seems like it fits the meaning of 'than' better than 'from' which nowadays is mostly locative in meaning
I don't say 'different X than Y' though

Guess The Language
In this thread, you can post random bits of languages and anybody can guess what they are - allowing for multiple contemporaneous threads of thought.
No rules and restrictions, unlike in another thread which I don't care to mention
My contribution:
naştë së e nëpiwë, pëk unëz oştë poeçe.

Re: The dream thread
My brother remembers all his dreams, in pristine detail. He was telling me about his nightmare yesterday where he was being chased by lots of tiny blue bugs that were apparently also ghosts. And he was on a field trip to an abandoned mansion with his 4th grade class and stuff. Also he killed a blue ...

Re: Where does /tɬ/ in Icelandic come from?
Well, three hundred fecund bushmen in some hill tribe in darkest wherever are much more likely to continue their language and general culture than, you know, the Gaeltacht or Manx or any other endangered european language. Coz they have lots of kids and little contact with the imperial languages. Co...

Re: Where does /tɬ/ in Icelandic come from?
Manx may currently be a living language - this being a synchronic label - and will probably continue to be one for as long as there exist people with silly ideas buzzing around in their heads and more leisure time than they know what to do with. This state of affairs could foreseeably continue for a...
