Re: Chavakani writing systems
First time back in a while, glad to se this is still going along! I'm concerned that the resulting syllabary will end up with more in common with Japanese kana systems than I'd like Then might I suggest avoiding the direction altogether. Maybe you can consider something along the lines of what devel...

Re: Nawi (probably to be renamed later): Burke's lang
The glottal stop as a letter actually has Unicode upper and lower cases: Ɂ and ɂ respectively. The IPA sound - /ʔ/ - is yet another value. I did not know that, but I don't think I should be too surprised. Are there any languages that use these in daily orthography? I'm going to stick with the <'> a...

Re: "Without" in languages without prepositions
English sort of does this, but you risk some lexical shifts sometimes. Suffixes like -less or -free are frequent. We could say a man is emotionless or without emotion. We often call drinks sugar-free or baked goods gluten-free when without sugar or without gluten would be roughly equivalent. Chinese...

Re: Nawi : Burke's Lang
I've noticed that I've hit a fair deal of trouble in word derivation for Nawi. Now, I'm not going to scrap the project since I like it a fair deal, but I've revised two things, one a little bit, another a fair deal. I still plan to treat Nawi as a proto-language. The first thing that was slightly mo...

Re: Nawi (probably to be renamed later): Burke's lang
well, what I find nice is that it resembles a natural language in every aspect. Some of its phonotactics are found in the Cretan and other dialects of Greek. Another thing I have to observe, consider using postpositions instead of prepositions, because your syntax is often head-last, in which postp...

There's a chinese conlang group on facebook too if you like: https://www.facebook.com/groups/conlinguaphiles/ It's pretty young (like a month or two) but I think it should be decently active. As for necroing, C programmers got to see some epic necro this past week: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!...

Following up from the stress stuff I said before, Wikipedia does a solid summary for you: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varieties_of_Modern_Greek#Phonological_features I think you could also have fun with the dark /l/ trend as well, since it would be a fun way to reintroduce either /w/ or /u/. Re: Nawi (probably to be renamed later): Burke's lang
Hello! This looks interesting so far. I like the multiple copulae. Thanks a bunch. The multiple copulae was one of the few things I've done purely for fun in Nawi so far rather than trying to work with the idea of binaries. I was wondering, for purposes of assigning stress in Nawi, do the trochaic ...

Re: Nawi (probably to be renamed later): Burke's lang
Today's update is mainly going to focus on lexical patterns and hit some cultural notes. I want to look at two root patterns, and hammer some vocab out. I hope to eventually edit the first post to have a link to a lexicon, a more formal grammar/language description, and a listing of particles or lex...

Re: Nawi (probably to be renamed later): Burke's lang
I've decided to do a smaller update today, and instead of focusing on a certain grammatical topic I'm shifting pace and focusing instead on a syntactic process and describing what it does for various words. That process is one of my favorites in linguistics in general and it is Reduplication redupli...

Okay, so I took 20 days off, I want to reboot this with a little look into "prepositions" and adjectives in NPs. The application of the two in an NP is unremarkably very similar to each other, but this section at least allows for a bit more depth to be seen in Nawi. Preposition Like Structures Prepo...

The noun class thing looks fun. As soon as I saw it I was hoping you were going to pull a Navajo and put lightening in the class associated with the highest animacy, along people. On that note, is there an implied animacy hierarchy here, and will that reflect itself in the verbal system where if I m...

I like this idea! Sound Tendencies 1. Tendency to 4 vowel systems. Sometimes it is a vertical /a ε o i/ or a triangular /a i u/ with some unrounded central vowel 2. Stops tend not to make a voicing/secondary articulation, namely I'll tend to have /p/ but nothing else there aside from nasals 3. Inclu...
