Re: Wierdest and Most Alien Conlang
Alternation of generations basically means it either reproduces sexually or asexually, depending on the way it was conceived. Ps. Gumi is my favorite (especially the V2 version. And she's my favorite Engloid since her English version came out too.) Pps. Most of you won't understand the postscriptum....

Re: I wish English had a word for this!
Just yesterday, I found another great German word to add to my collection of amusing "untranslatables": Morgenmuffel "person who is grumpy in the mornings". I like that word. I don't know if it exists, but I'm looking for a one-word synonym for "inhabitant of a capital" as in Spanish "capitalino" o...

I like the way you've used metathesis, I usually don't get any more exotic than reduplication ! Just a question: is it completely a priori or are there loanwords from earthlangs?

Re: The dream thread
Last night's dream made absolutely no sense. I was on a family holiday in some sort of house with a giant buffet. My sister got mad at me because I ate the last piece of apple pie. We drove away in what was probably an English car (the driver's seat was on the right.) with two houses and a trailer b...

Turbulent /x/
My native language, Dutch, has two different types of the phoneme /x/: "soft" (southern, my variant), and "hard" (northern, the standard Netherlandic dialect). According to Wikipedia, this difference is due to POA: "soft" is palatal /ç/ to front-velar /x/, and "hard" velar /x/ to uvular /χ/, but I b...

Re: Underappreciated words
I've never heard the word hoerenzoon and I would laugh at anyone calling me that. And most English swear words/phrases can't be translated directly: e.g. teef (bitch) neuk jou (fuck you) and stront (shit). I reccomend using the English equivalents when shouting at a Dutch native speaker.

A reverse SCA. You have a naming language, and want to make a relative, but you have no ancestor worked out.
A checklist and a conjugator would be really useful too.

What will the orthography be like? Re: Wierdest and Most Alien Conlang
I was thinking of throwing four of the sounds away and limiting the phonological inventory to /ʙ/...
Or are you okay with a glottal nasal implosive affricative?

Re: Wierdest and Most Alien Conlang
- The language has the following phonological inventory: /ʙ ʟ̝ ɢ̆ ᴙ ɴ/. There are no vowels.
- The language has interjections only: no nouns, verbs or adjectives
- The language has 7 cases: intrative, egressive, prosecutive, pegative, aversative, exessive and translative. These are marked by tonality.

Re: Too many vowels
What I usually do is first use the basic letters, and then ask myself if I want digraphs or diacritics. (This is usually diacritics for vowels and digraphs for consonants for me). I usually don't like to use the same diacritic only once (as in only â, but no ô or ê) So I'd spell /æ a e ə o ɪ ʊ i u a...

Re: Euphony and non-phonemic orthographies
On a related note, what about the shapes of the letters themselves? I've always loved "c" and strongly disliked "k", and am ambivalent about "s"; hence, I try to use "c" in my conlangs as much as possible. Anybody else feel the same way? My native language is Dutch and <k> is much more common than ...
