Re: Post your conlang's phonology
Fricatives : /θ, ð, ʃ, ʒ, x, χ uvular , h/ /*Note: Seems that the velar fricative 'x' and the uvular fricative 'χ' are both printed 'x', so I had to make due.*/ They show up as different to me. Perhaps you're using a font without Unicode support? Or, you use a wacky unicode font, like Trebuchet. Ok...

Re: Post your conlang's phonology
Hey guys, here's a rough outline of a phonology I may use. First time posting a real phonology - I hope this works. Thoughts? Also, if '#' is not the end of a word, feel free to let me know which symbol i should use :) Plosives : /t, t w , t h , t j , k, k w , k h , k j , q, q w , q h , ʔ/ /*Note: t...

Re: Conlanging Software Wish List
I'm an shiny new amateur as well, but I suppose language feature-filtering/sorting would be great to find examples of how others used/coped with certain features. As in, filtering by morphosyntactic alignment, word order, etc. Would be great for data mining as well, I'd think.

Re: Beginner Linguistics Resources
The order in which you fill in things is mostly irrelevant - most people start with a phonology, but you could just as easily do the reverse of what I think is the usual process: start with the syntax, figure out the morphology, and only after the grammar is completed fill it in with sounds and wor...

Re: Beginner Linguistics Resources
Let me also give you the advice that morphology is only the tip of the iceberg. It is the most obvious difference between languages to the layman (after phonology), and so many new conlangers jump to create new and daring morphology, but that exercise is as futile as it ignores the greater part of ...

Re: Beginner Linguistics Resources
Something that isn't Indo-European. Arabic works, just don't get caught in the OMG TRICONSONANTAL ROOTS ARE SO SPECIAL trap. They're not what they appear to be on the surface (though for learning that surface idea of them works quite well). Awww. :(. Got caught in that trap like a month ago. Ah wel...

Re: Beginner Linguistics Resources
The vast majority of us began by wiki'ing one term which lead to wiki'ing two more, etc. until we had thirty tabs and more questions than when we began. And we've just kept going. I am completely serious when I say this. I still have to check for terms sometimes, or how to spell dechticaetiative. N...

Re: Beginner Linguistics Resources
din, sounds great- I'll pick one up. Yeah, wikipedia is awesome. Once I understand the bare terminology, I bet I'll be able to understand it better. Can't wait till then. I spent a looooooong time there, before decided a true introduction would be much more efficient. wiki'ing one term would lead to...

Re: Paralyzing Plate Tectonics
Not too much else in my sea of bookmarks that deals with plate tectonics specifically... There's http://worldbuildingschool.com/adding-tectonic-plates-to-your-world-map/ . If you're really desperate, here's another, though I never watched it: http://www.deborahteramischristian.com/world-building-2/w...

Well, I thought I'd post a couple places I knew already. Hopefully other people might find it useful as well. If there is a thread like this that's not dead already, I haven't seen it- apologies ahead of time. Seems Promising: http://allthingslinguistic.com/post/52820680363/protolinguist-master-post...

Beginner Linguistics Resources
Hello all, As you can probably tell, I'm new here and have a lot to learn. While I've found great conlangin' resources (how'd you think I found this forum!), I'm really lacking for a basic linguistic foundation. I'd love to take classes, but my school doesn't offer anything short of graduate linguis...

Re: Paralyzing Plate Tectonics
Don't know enough about plate tectonics to be confident about sharing personal opinion, but... I had a couple bookmarks from awhile ago surrounding this subject, found through pain and suffering. Unfortunately just 1 directly deals with plate tectonics, but all of them sound like they might become u...
