Re: Conlang relay [relocated] (aka "The Cursed Relay")

As it happens I did some revisions of Pre-PL a few months ago based on feedback I had received and I've developed a good sense of the internal history of the family. I'd like to post it but it currently exists in a somewhat scattershot note format that I'm not sure how I'll develop into a good arti...

Re: Conlang relay [relocated] (aka "The Cursed Relay")

Hey all! I Just discovered the Akana wiki through another thread, and it looks really cool! I've been skimming the recent posts here and Dunomapuka's "Pre-Proto-Lukpanic" really tickles my fancy. I've developed a bit of an obsession with glottalic consonants, and I'd love to start tinkering with a N...

Re: Post your conlang's phonology

Here's what I've got for my most recent project, tentatively called Mita , which is essentially a fanciful "reconstruction" of Pre-Proto-Chumash. Consonants nasal /m n/ stop /p t k q ʔ/ fricative /s/ approximant /l j w/ /s/ varies fairly freely between [s] and [ʃ], with the notable restriction that ...

55. More phonemes at a single coronal POA than at any other single POA Languages don't seem to break this one. Rotokas probly counts, if just barely, because it's usually analyzed as having an equal number of bilabial, alveolar, and velar consonants. Pirahã might, for similar reasons, but it depend...

Re: How to design a non-European phonology

60.5%SAE I kinda figured this, because Uralic is a little bit like Indo-European, yet somewhat different. Maybe more points should be given to distinguish languages with vowel harmony? :P This language would definitely differ from SAE in terms of morphology/grammar, as it is agglutinative. Honestly...

Sprachbünde of the World

I was poking around over in a thread about the common features of "Standard Average European," and I got to thinking that it would be interesting for people to share what they know about other language areas of the world. Linguistic borrowing obviously goes pretty far beyond swiping useful vocabular...

Definitely interesting stuff... for what it's worth, I've heard of another 5-vowel system that doesn't seem to be included here. As far as I can tell nobody else has pointed it out yet. Re: Post your conlang's phonology

I've been tinkering around with Riktas and I've pretty much overhauled the phonology. I've got some ideas about a system of consonant mutation more complex than what I had before, so I figured I'd post it and see if it makes sense to anybody else. Consonants Nasal /m, n, ŋ/ Plosive /p, b, p', t̪, d̪...

Re: Analyzing Vulcan Language Sample

Speaking of which, the Vulcan quotes on Memory Alpha from Star Trek II and III (where "Okrand Vulcan" was used) seem to support the hypothesis that "-un" marks a second person subject, though it appears as "-an" in one case and "-en" in another. That might indicate some kind of Sandhi, but there's p...

Mutsun, a native Californian language for which Okrand wrote a reference grammar, makes use of both independent and enclitic pronouns and a general locative case suffix expressing that the action in a clause occurs at, on, in, or toward an place or thing. Based on that, I would guess that, of the po...

Re: The Kgáweqʼ Language & Its Speakers

I really like the idea of success affixes; are they inspired by any particular real-world model? The verbal morphology otherwise reminds me a lot of Kashaya, though that may just be because I've been doing a lot of reading about Californian languages lately. In any event, I like it, though those con...
