Re: Discrimination (from garden path thread)
To me the problem with the term cyberbullying is that it implies that it is special somehow and thus needing differentiation from normal bullying, which people can too get PTSD or kill themselves as a result of. Do you really think that using the term cyberbullying implies that normal bullying does...

Re: Modern Greek
Weyötiss has several notable grammatical features to be noted. At first glance, it appears to be SOV: Α εμο ττερ πα̨τορ λοττ α Α̨γλικα σηα̨τ. Ιογ ηϝε σηυνικ κα̨ ικ. My father's native language is English. I can understand and speak it. However, the object may be freely replaced with an adverb or adv...

Re: New Grammatical Person
I never quite understood why certain authors (George R.R. Martin and Brian Jacques come to mind) feel the need to describe in minute detail what all the characters eat during each meal. My eyes tend to just skip over all that, especially since (owing to my own particular cultural culinary experienc...

I recommend using these morphemes: this, that, I, him, cat, semen, broil, dodecahedron, trilobyte, neodymium filing, Bolshevik, and a suffix marking the antipassive.
This should serve well enough for most languages.

well then I guess I'm just THAT oblivious. great I didn't call out Pole because he wasn't accusatory in the same way Linguoboy was. Honestly I don't know or care who overreacted anymore. I probably did. Speaking of which, my apologies, Cev. That said, of course there's no such thing as 'sarcasm mark...

I haven't been here as long as any of you, and even I could tell he was being sarcastic. There were literally no sarcasm markers in Pole's post. How about a) the fact that the Pole quoted the title of the thread rather than an actual post, b) the fact that he was talking about something as extreme ...

There were literally no sarcasm markers in Pole's post. ProTip: If you are unfamiliar with a particular poster's default posting style, try viewing a few of their other posts before trying to interpret one of them in isolation. Lack of sarcasm markers is not a reason to assume sincerity, but it is ...

Morphosyntax Modern Weyötiss distinguishes roughly six TAMs. The former present has narrowed to a 'conative', which is used to imply attempt or intention: Πφε τε παιθο̨ντ ηα̨μεμιν ϝηε! Inflection Weyötiss retains the cases and numbers of Classical Boeotian, with the exception of the vocative, but no longer marks the distinction on the noun. Only the article, and adjectives which were originally oxytone, decline. Additionally, due to the tone split and subsequent loss of final /s/...

Many important figures were not born, but rather moved, to Athens. Aristotle was born in Stagira , in Chalcidice. Plato and Socrates are harder, especially since Plato was born to a prestigious family. Of course, I don't know nearly enough about philosophy to even begin to speculate on what would ha...

Diachronics Boeotian had many points of divergence from Attic. The scenario I presented is not without its problems, no. It's based on a simplified and handwaved version of history. In reality, the Greeks wouldn't have been able to hold Thermopylae for more than another day even with Boeotian aid, and it's doubtful that an allied force of less than basically al...

Modern Greek
In 514 BC, Harmodius and Aristogeiton, commonly called the "Tyrannicides", attempted to assassinate the tyrants Hippias and Hipparchus. They only succeeded on the latter count, and Hippias stayed in power for another four years, until his increasingly cruel rule (and unnerving association with Persi...

Vijay: Yes, the drift from 'scare' to 'irritate/disgust' is recent, and probably the internet's fault. This is a thing that happened?
