Re: Hokkanae
Can't believe I've posted that in 2014. Feels much earlier. Anyway, I was thinking about a Puczi Hokkanae (East-side Hokkanae) dialect: i. Turn up the velume did not occur. ii. Make us stronger also included /f/, developing /p:/. iii. Big Bang was limited to developping /ɸ/ from aspiration of /p/, a...

dubious phonemization of palatal and velar consonants
smooth pronunciation of glides is reported for hokkanae, where glides are phonetically elided and condition the preceding consonant's poa. the smooth (sinmupoel) and the strong (kkanmupoel) speeches are in free variation. bvogin /bwogin/ common sense > bvoegzin /pʷødʑin ~ pwødʑin/ bogin /bogin/ side...

*can someone recommend a way to distinguish /r/ from /ɹ/ in romanization? Geminates are of course a thing, so <rr> for the trill doesn't work. First of all, your conlang looks sweet. Now to the question: I've never used those together, so I can only guess. Maybe <q> for /r/? One of them could be <r...

Existence of [tʃwV] and [tɕjV]
I was wondering if the [tʃwV] and [tɕjV] clusters are possible to exist. They'd have to be one single syllable, V standing for whatever vowel. It seems weird to me that [w, j] would remain (at least as actual approximants), but at the same time I can't come up with an organic rule or anything else t...

Re: Modern English to Modern Brazilian Portuguese
Saying this is like saying that Modern English didn't come from Proto-Germanic because it came from Old English. Old English ultimately comes from Proto-Germanic, thus so does Modern English. In the same way, Brazilian Portuguese ultimately comes from Vulgar Latin. What I presume the OP means is th...

Re: Modern English to Modern Brazilian Portuguese
Brazilian Portuguese didn't come from Vulgar Latin, but rather from the Portuguese of the 16th century. However, colonial Portuguese didn't really become a new language over time, so calling the pt-BR of today "modern", as to give it a "separate language" feeling, may be problematic as well. You cou...

I'm trying to think of better ways to write the diphthongs and somehow include /ɔ/ (and maybe /ø/) to achieve symmetry among open-mid and close-mid vowels.

yo, that's my first post here so, I've been thinking on creating a conlang for a while but due to excessive amount of school tests throughout the whole trimester I wasn't really able to pay too much attention to it. but I have created some basic phonology and some plans on how I'll structure its gra...
