Re: Ȧbhannı
Okay, this has taken a while, but I'm gonna talk about the last two cases (skipping the vocative for now I guess) which I call the "peripheral" cases (since they don't mark arguments, unlike the "core" cases, and are suffixed after those cases). Possessive The possessive case differs from the other ...

What don't you understand? The phonology section of my post is just an outline but it's more fleshed out in my grammar.mèþru wrote:I was skimming and didn't pay attention to the phonology. That part makes no sense.

Re: Ȧbhannı
Thanks guys! What even is this phonology O.O Yeah, it's pretty weird and asymmetric. I evolved it (roughly) from /mʲ mˠ nʲ nˠ pʲ pˠ kʲ k ʔ sʲ sˠ h rʲ rˠ j w/, but I'm not focusing too hard on the historical aspect here other than keeping everything somewhat naturalistic and self-consistent. But if y...

Ȧbhannı
View my (very WIP) LaTeX grammar here! Ȧbhannı is an a-priori artlang, with phonological influences from predominantly Basque and Japanese, as well as some conlang ideas I had years ago. This post contains a bit of phonology and most of what I've done on its morphosyntactic alignment, which is fair...

Looking for short texts in various extinct languages
Hi! I'm looking for some short (romanized) texts in various dead languages; specifically Old Chinese, Old Japanese, and Hittite (if you have others, that would be cool too). If you could help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Re: Guess the Language, anyone?
Hey, cool! Anyways, here's my mysterylang: ngô:do kûk l'àrtâ:lagî:ka, mō:ro el:ma kâ igbâ:dàla mō:ro el:mo lê aden:yarà pō:-tōt läh. aden:yarà pō:-tōt läh. The colons seem to break up morphemes, but I'm not entirely certain. Hopefully the language isn't too obscure (or just the opposite). We'll see.

Seed 1939907510 (n the online version at least): Fairly small but boring consonant inventory with 11 consonants, but an insane, dare I say stupid, vowel system: i u a ã ɟ̩ g̩ Yes, those are syllabic voiced stops. Re: The Great Proto-Indo-European Thread
I have a question regarding the PIE ablaut. Why do some proterokinetic nouns (the (t)i/u- stems) have a stressed zero grade suffix in some weak forms (e.g. the instrumental singular)?

Re: Thūreḫos - an Indo-European Conlang
Well, my (somewhat educated) guess it that the original PIE phonemes were something like /m n/ <m n> /p t k q qʷ/ <p t ḱ k kʷ> /bʱ dʱ gʱ ɢʱ ɢʱʷ/ <bʰ dʰ ǵʰ gʰ gʷʰ> /b d g ɢ ɢʷ/ <b d ǵ g gʷ> /s χ ʁʷ h/ <s h₁ h₃ h₂> /w r l j/ <w r l y> /(i iː u uː)/ <i ī u ū> /ɛ ɛː ɔ ɔː/ <e ē o ō> /(a aː)/ <a ā> Of cou...

Re: Thūreḫos - an Indo-European Conlang
Okay, on to the nominal morphology. Thūreḫos inherited a highly complex noun system from PIE. It has eight declensions, along with some 16 variations of these that arose from vowel shifts of vowels following PIE w and y. These are termed W-Grade and Y-Grade, and are not considered separate declensio...

Re: Thūreḫos - an Indo-European Conlang
I just don't really like how grave accents look (plus, I originally had a phoneme that I romanized ŕ, so I wanted the diacritics to match).

Thūreḫos - an Indo-European Conlang
Thūreḫos is pretty much little more than an experiment in diachronic conlanging, but is one that I've wanted to do (and have been working on) for a while. After numerous revisions, it is in a somewhat finalized state. Originally I attempted to base it phonologically off Ancient Greek, but as time we...
