Re: Odd natlang features thread
So more like 64 vowels. And Danish is the only language to have a low front rounded vowel. Well not 64 phonemes due to reduction and rules for the distribution of stød based on vowel length, following consonants, placement of syllabic stress, ... Also stød can be interpreted as a prosodic feature r...

Re: WIP Language that does not require the possesion of a to
Not that you have to have every possible sound, but you could have * implosives as well as ejectives * multiple vowel heights (these depend on mouth opening as much as tongue position) I have considered implosives but i left them out, i figured that what i had was enough. While i have been poking around on here, WALS and similar places for some time, I am probably still going to make a bunch of mistakes. 2. This is intended as a learning experience for me so if you h...

Re: Odd natlang features thread
Spoken Danish... the rumours are all true. We went to Copenhagen over the new year, and while understanding written Danish is doable with knowing German and English, I was unable to understand almost anything spoken (Except für Godt Nytår , because I heard that often enough ;-) ) All the rumors dud...

Re: Odd natlang features thread
Rapidly spoken Danish can have some pretty crazy vowel clusters, due to a high degree of consonant reduction, sometimes even of the same vowel. Example: "Er en dyresk ueuge uu dholdelig?" (Audio recording (not sure how to write it in IPA): http://bit.ly/1DhDGaL) (The underlined part is more or less ...
