Re: Nomen
The nasals look a bit ridiculous. I suggest that intervocalic nasals do not elide, ĩ/ẽ/_ and ũ/õ/_, all nasal vowels are indicated in the orthography and that nasals become phonemic after long vowels merge with short vowels. Short vowels during Classical Latin already had lowered values, and a compl...

Re: Nomen
The whole concept is very unrealistic - a Romance language which borrows regularly from Sanskrit and Chinese, spoken by a widespread community in nearly every country, as well as magic existing. I tried to make a more plausible suggestion before posting that, but I couldn't. The desert was barely in...

Re: Nomen
Is this an althist? It sounds like a Middle Eastern romance language. If you want a realistic origin for the language, I would say that the world community of magicians stemmed from Romanised Arabs (pre-Islamic, post-Christian) living in the desert split between Iraq and Saudi Arabia. They eventuall...

Odoodee: According to resources on Odoodee I found on the SIL webstite, the nasals are actually long vowels. In that case, instead of adding a tilde, just double vowels. <b t d k g> <m n> <f s h> <v l j> <i ĩ é é̃ e ẽ ò ò̃ o õ ó ó̃ u ũ> Ò̃ òbògò sóva sòluvɔbi felẽdoboloso neme, sé òbògò hu vodo omòf...

http://talktoyouniverse.blogspot.com/2010/02/language-pridelanguage-control.html I think that there is still a lot of xenophobia in Japan, but there is a lot of xenophobia everywhere. There is also a special idea of uniqueness. Many feel that foreigners cannot properly grasp the language (as Japanes...

Re: Nomen
Make a language and use bogolinguistics to derive a Latin-like language. That satisfies the first bullet point, but not the second one, which is the more important of the two. Also, this is supposed to be based on Latin to start off with and have existed for a long time, not to have come to resembl...

Re: Nomen
Make a language and use bogolinguistics to derive a Latin-like language. It helps if the phonology is already similar to Latin or is similar to any of the historical predecessors of Latin (Old Latin, Proto-Italic, PIE). To me, Classical Latin is the most "magical"-sounding era. "hocus pocus" is thou...

Re: How can Present Perfective and Past Perfect differ?
There actually is an imperfective aspect. It is used to cover imperfective type of aspect not covered by progressive, continuous, and delimitative. Habituals are in that category. The "present perfective" is definitely not the habitual, so I'm not sure about what it translates to. There are seven te...

I was trying to make a counterpoint and failed spectacularly. I give up my case and now have to redesign agefaqeg verbs (I made present perfective the default form).

Re: Romanization challenge thread
As I said that language has no future. No one would ever want to speak it. It just sounds awesome. I made it while thinking "I just can't get enough of gutteral fricatives." I found another member of the weird phonologies-languages: /ʈ c ɟ q ɢ ɳ ɲ ɴ/ /ʀ/ /ⱱ ɽ/ /ɸ β/ /ʐ ç ʝ χ ʁ ħ ʕ ɦ/ /ɻ ɰ/ /ɭ ʎ ʟ/ /...

Re: Reverse Romanization Challenge Thread
It doesn't have to tie in if you don't want it to. I just post these and phonologies in the romanisation thread for fun and practice. Also, when together, the phonology I meant is a bit clearer. If you've been paying attention (which of course, you don't have to), most of the orthographies I post he...

Re: How can Present Perfective and Past Perfect differ?
You are right about "I eat" being wrong. I have seen perfective in the sense of "not progressive or habitual or gnomic or stative" a lot in descriptions of English on Wikipedia. Apparently, minus one for Wikipedia.
