Well, I believe Japanese doesn't distinguish participles and relative clauses syntactically, so it could be an example of what you're thinking of. There are no relativisers, so it looks more like a participle than a relative clause: watashi=o mita hito 1SG=ACC see-PST person watashi=ga mita hito 1SG...

I think the effect would have been massive. Sure, there'd still have been a dark age... but coming out of it would have been so much easier. In our timeline, Newton and Leibniz both independently struggled to create calculus - wouldn't things have happened quicker if they'd had access to the manusc...

I like the grammatical developments shown in 4pq1injbok's and nebula wind phone's entries. As for applicatives and voice: One of the possible development ideas was to have it turn into a kind of multi-trigger system (which I had a brief discussion with TomHChappel about in a thread earlier this year...

I have moved my files over - most URLs should work if you replace www.geocities.com/low_zl/ by zhenlin.nfshost.com/akana/ but .csv.txt should be replaced by .csv. Geocities closes on Monday...

There's a longer version...? Well, it's not quite the same story, but I did find this . It could probably work if it was shortened a bit and adapted more to PPI culture, though. That's an amusing story. A shortened version could work. (If there a page on PPI culture, by the way? I don't think I saw...

On a different note, how is AhH coming? I liked it. I haven't really touched it for a year (though, huh, apparently at some point I wrote up the sound changes and never linked it in). Hopefully all this will get me back into the Akana mindset and I'll pick it up again, or at least finally render th...

I decided to go with Nerysthe (Νερῡσθέ /ne.r}:.st_he/) as the country name. The adjectival form is Nerysthaic (patterned on the native adjective νερῡσθαῖκρι /ne.r}:s."t_haI.kri/), and the demonym is Nerystha (νερῡσθά /ne.r}:".st_ha/), pl. Nerysthar (νερῡσθάρα /ne."r}:."st_ha.ra/). I'm thinking of pl...

It's an Aesop fable - The fisherman and the little fish. I should think up a longer text for translation though... hmmm.
The thing is, I want to avoid ending up with a situation whereby the demonyms and/or language names end up being cognate, like what happened for Ndak Ta...

On a technical note: could someone please amend the site CSS so that only body gets a font-family attribute? body, p, td, th, input, textarea { font-family: 'Charis SIL', 'DejaVu Serif', Gentium, 'DejaVu Sans', 'Lucida Grande', Georgia, 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif; } The way it is now makes it virtua...

I like it, and it's rather easy to pronounce. The only things I'd really consider worth rethinking are the phonetic value of <f>, for which I'd personally prefer [f] rather than [ʍ], and the orthography <c> for [k kʰ ks] - maybe <k> would look better. But then, a language that's phonologically this...

Comments on how this sounds would be appreciated. Everything else is still being worked on, of course, but it would be nice to finalise the phonology and have a rough idea of what the sound laws are going to be...

[quote="Corumayas"Yes, that's high falling. (For some reason, the two tone symbols display separately on the wiki, but on the board they merge into one... the board has better unicode implementation, apparently)[/quote] It's a font thing. Some fonts can convert sequences of level tone symbols into c...
