I never even considered giving the Indo-Semitic bogolangs nonconcatenative morphology!
They're supposed to be descendants of PIE, and thus should have IE-like morphology, not the 3C root system of actual Semitic langs.

Re: Indo-Semitic concept bogolang
Well... Sh*t. Yeah, there really isn't much info about the Semitic langs, and my first SCA testrun with the soundchanges (plus a few more that I've brewed myself/borrowed for historical accuracy, like the laryngeals becoming full vowels) failed horribly. Although deriving all of the modern Semitlang...

Indo-Semitic concept bogolang
After a while of working on my Anglo-Romance bogolang, I had the idea of taking the bogo up a notch, and I conceived a concept AU in which Northeast Semitic languages (Arabic, Hebrew, Aramaic etc.) were descendants of Proto-Indo-European. I'd like ideas on how to kickstart the thing and some soundch...

Re: My new Anglo-Romlang, Briþenniċea
Pronouns and Extras Personal Pronouns The Personal Pronouns, as with the other romance languages, preserve case distinctions that all other nouns have lost. They distinguish four cases: Nominative, Accusative, Genitive and Oblique. The First person Pronouns are derived from Latin ego and nōs , as e...

Re: My new Anglo-Romlang, Briþenniċea
Verbs Latin Verbs are arugably the most intricate, complex and often baffling part of the language- but I'm not here to talk about Latin Verbs, but about their Briþenniċean offspring. Grammatical changes ensue: No more special Passive conjugations The Supine is eliminated The Future Participles are...

Re: My new Anglo-Romlang, Briþenniċea
Adjectives Adjectives in Latin had two declension patterns: The quite uniform 1st/2nd declension and the much more diverse 3rd declension. The development of 1st/2nd declension adjectives in Briþenniċea is as follows: æltu 'tall' Sg Pl M. Dir æltu elti M. Obl æltu elti F. Dir ælt ælta F. Obl ælta e...

Re: My new Anglo-Romlang, Briþenniċea
Are there minimal pairs between [ɣ] and [x], or between [ɣ] and any of the other realizations of /h/? If there are, have you considered merging the two even so, to match the lack of voice distinction in the other fricatives? I think this happened in Danish. It depends how close to modern English yo...

Re: My new Anglo-Romlang, Briþenniċea
Nominal Morphology As in most Romance languages, The Fifth Declension fused with the First and the Fourth joined the Second. Due to sound/grammar changes, Latin's Complicated Case/Number/Gender system got heavily simplified: The Masculine absorbed the Neuter The Vocative merged with the Nominative,...

My new Anglo-Romlang, Briþenniċea
Note: This is still WIP and my first actual, somewhat thought-out conlang. I'd appreciate your feedback. So, I have created this language- a bogolang in nature- which is basically what if Old English descended from Latin rather than Proto-Germanic. It's not historically justified, I'm not gonna use ...

Questions about bogolanging
Having read about Brithenig and Wenedyk , I have become fascinated about bogolanging- the conlanger's version of alternative history: "What if this language belonged to that family instead of this one?" AFAIK, to bogolang one needs a "Grand Master Plan", which consists of two main stages: 1. Transfo...

Soap's challenge intrigued me, to say the least. So, I decided to do some "translation" exercise on the good old UDHR article 1, translated into hawai'ian: Hānau kū’oko’a ‘ia nā kānaka apau loa, a ua kau like ka hanohano a me nā pono kīvila ma luna o kākou pākahi. Ua ku’u mai ka no’ono’o pono a me k...

Vowel harmony pls
Hey,
I've started working on pretty much my first conlang and I want to give it a vowel harmony system like Finnish
(Two groups A and B that cannot coexist and a neutral group C).
the phonemic vowels are / i e~ɛ a o~ɔ u y ø~œ ɯ ɤ~ʌ / , plus length.
Can you give me some advice?

Re: Learning new languages
It's nice for learning the basics and for repeating things you need to use a lot. But to really get the feel for a language, you need to go past Duolingo and talk to actual people or at least consume media in that language. Oh, I see. I want to learn (Not necessarily in this order): -Spanish -Japan...

Learning new languages
I have a little question: Do you think that Duolingo is a good place for learning new languages? I've learned a bit of German and Esperanto there, and I'd like to know whether is learning there effective. Also, do you think it's fine to learn multiple languages at once? Feedback would be appreciated.
