Re: Tutorial: Making a Realistic Triconsonantal Language (be

Re: British Romance Language Collab

Would anyone be interested in taking over this project for me? I have found that it is very time consuming to be world-building and conlanging this much while still trying to balance my time with school. Anyone interested? Here is the current vote count for this series of questions. 38) Should we ac...

Re: British Romance Language Collab

Well, I was thinking of something more like a partnership and not being a vassal, but I have no idea how the Danes could accept such a proposal. Maybe we could tell the Danes that we will assist them in conquering the land of other nearby nations. Our armies could work together, and maybe we could ...

Re: British Romance Language Collab

36) Should we offer the King’s daughter to the King of Wessex to form a dynastic union and possibly strengthen our alliance? (Still working out the names). We will accept the marriage offer. 37) We have fast-forwarded about 200 years to the time of King Alfred of Kent (Alfred the Great in our timel...

Re: British Romance Language Collab

36. a, as long as Wessex doesn't object to us taking over Sussex (the Fishbourne palace is there, which would make a very good cultural capital for a Romano-British kingdom.) If Wessex refuses to keep their noses out of Sussex, we refuse. Alfred the Great was from the House of Wessex. Kent had been...

We could make it so that in this timeline, they have control of Essex too and have cornered Kent.

The borders have remained stationary and are basically the same as this map except that Mercia and North Wales are part of Britannia, and West Wales is part of Wessex.

35) Should Proto-Britainese retain the four noun cases of Vulgar Latin? We will keep the Nominative and Genitive, but have the Accusative and Dative cases merge into an Oblique case. The vowel /y/ will be written as <ui>, <oi>, and <ói> based on etymology but loanwords will have it as <ui>. There was a two way tie between a and c. 29) How should the...

Re: British Romance Language Collab

Sure! I don't have the grammar fleshed out, so this is basically just me applying its sound changes and rearranging words to make the grammar more Romance-like, but it should give a good idea of what Proto-Britainese looks like. Now we just need to figure out the orthography and flesh out the gramma...

Re: British Romance Language Collab

18) What should the name of our country be in English? Our country will be called Britannia. 19) How should the vowel /y/ evolve in our language? The back vowels undergo an umlaut where /u o ɔ a/ > /y e ɛ ɛ/ and there will be a diphthong shift of /ɔi oi ui/ > /y/ and /au ɔu ou/ > /u/ 20) These last...

Re: British Romance Language Collab

Yes. I said "Creoda's son Pybba" and "Pybba's son Penda". It was merely a dynastic union, and Pybba is four years older than Ēadgȳþ, therefore, Pybba would have been the heir to Mercia's throne, but he died so the title would go to his son Penda but, Ēadgȳþ was the only other child of Creoda, and du...

Re: British Romance Language Collab

Since votes end in 30 minutes, and there are three ties, it is apparent that there will need to be a tie-breaker. If there are no more votes by November 9 at 00:45 UTC, the ties will be broken via a random number generator on random.org. Each letter involved will be given a number (first option - 1,...

Results: 1) Will we be following the Spezia-Rimini line ? This language will be a Western Romance language. British Romance Language Collab

Let's make a collab language! How it works is that all aspects of the language will be voted on, and there might be a little history-building involved. For this collab, we'll be making a Romance language descended from British Latin. Any proposals made for any questions will be added as an extra opt...
